We missed our own birthday… #fail…
04. Nov, 2008 by Adii Rockstar in Promotions
Eek… This is kinda embarrassing, but we missed our own birthday, which occured on Sunday, 2 November. We had been planning to do a post about it, but things just never really panned out, considering we were busy finalizing stuff for the WooContest. But better late than never, we say…
So then I think it’s time that we hear a nice big “Happy Bday Woo!” from all of you folks!
Now sure – WooThemes itself is only 4-odd months old, but this whole journey started out on 2 November 2007, when I released The Original Premium News Theme (I was also on my own at that stage). Back then, I definitely was not as serious about the business as I am now and it was only when Magnus & Mark joined that things really started to take shape.
In hindsight, our business has far exceeded my wildest expectations and I think all 3 of us are more motivated than ever to continue building WooThemes!
Now, with all of that out of the way, we’d like to give all of you a present (even though it is our birthday). So since The Original Premium News Theme started it all, we’ve decided to release the theme to the public for free. We’ve learned a helluva lot since releasing The Original theme, but that theme is one of the cornerstones on which WooThemes has been built. So we’re sure that everyone will enjoy this free release…
The theme will be released under the same terms as our Snapshot theme i.e. you will need to purchase a support package from us to get access to the support forums & tutorials. Otherwise you will need to enjoy the theme without our help!
So download the theme and enjoy this one as a celebration of the journey we have undertaken in the last year!

@Jordan – Send the cake to Norway, it’s way cheaper

I think a theme developed around the concept of a cake would be very practical…
(joking)

Isn’t there a template missing?
I can’t show featured post on the front page.
9 November 2008 at 10:21 pm #
I can’t see the point in releasing a theme that doesn’t work properly.
ah yes, marketing?
9 November 2008 at 11:34 pm #
@Daxion – The theme works fine; so stop trying to put a negative spin on something that everyone else here as experienced as very positive!

I’m not doing that and it doesn’t work out of the box. The control panel link menu doesn’t correctly links to the control panel page. It works if you change add_menu_page() to add_theme_page() in functions.php, and I’ve tested it in a wamp server and uploaded to a Linux server before changing that line. Perhaps it’s because of WP 2.6.3? which is what I fresh installed on both servers?

@Daxion – The theme works – just ask all of our users that are currently using the theme. If you’re a WooThemes user, we’d gladly assist you to get it working within your hosting environment.

@Daxion – Are you using WPMU? In that case you will need to replace what you have done, but if you use our theme on a normal WP 2.6 install it will work perfectly.

Sorry,
But the “Featured” feature don’t work … I’ve been trying to debug this puppy, but so far no go … The theme looks good however.
Also, if you relase a theme for free, the documentation should also be included. If documentation is for “members only” then … it ain’t free , realy.

What makes a man great is to be able admit he/she was wrong. So…. I was wrong… partially, that is
. There is nothing wrong with the theme, that would prevent “Featured” articles to be presented in the big box. The problem was/is with the WP_Query itself. This class will not return any records for articles where the categories slag has some unconventional character in it (in my case it was “-”). Fixing the name brings everything back to live.
Having said that, I followed Daxion’s suggestion to move the Theme option screen to where it belongs – thx Daxion.
Also, It does not make sense “Fetured” category in the header category list. I patched the theme to exclude it.
Oh… my remark on documentation being not available still stands.
7 March 2009 at 11:58 pm #
so… How the hell I will understand how to use this theme if there is no docs available? nice try to promote this site but… come on… at least put a “readme” file in the zip to know how to use images on posts… (custom fields?)
“we’ve decided to release the theme to the public for free” (…)
COME ON! THAT?S NOT TRUE!!!
be more honest with your next “free” theme… and maybe I will register here…
Nice themes here anyway…
