You remember when the first TV’s started entering our homes back in the 1930′s and we all sat glued to the screen, as if watching TV was gonna change our lives (I’m improvising here, since I wasn’t born until about 50 years later…). Well, all I can say is that we’ve probably come a long way since then and we’ve even come as far as WooThemes finally releasing a video theme of their own… *gasp* *shock* *horror*
WooTube is our first attempt at creating a video theme and will also serve as the basis of our collection of our new multimedia themes collection. This has been a long time coming and many of you have requested more multimedia themes from us; unfortunately until now we’ve been so swamped releasing themes in other niche fields.
So WooTube is another design by Magnus and you’ll see a very strong Busy Bee influence on the design front (purely because Busy Bee has been so darn popular). Functionality-wise, we’ve tried to create a theme that allows you to post video blogs on a daily basis – that’s it. No frilly bits; just a superb code-base to allow you to create & publish your videos.
The great thing about WooTube is that you’re not limited to using any specific video embedding service and that it is ultimately super-easy to use. Along with a few nice additions in the little video slider (sidebar) and the integration of a ratings plugin, we think we’ve covered all of the most important bases in enabling you to become the next video blogging rockstar.
Your feedback is obviously always very important and since this is our first multimedia theme, we’d love to talk to you about the theme itself and where you’d like to see us take our multimedia themes in future. WooTube serves as a marker that we’ve put into the ground and to which we’ll measure our “progress” and innovation in this field in coming months.
So please switch of your TV, read more about WooTube , check out the demo and get talking about the theme! ![]()

Whoa! Just looks awesome!!
I think this theme is seriously going to rock!!
Good Luck!
I can’t understand why the Home Page looks more like a single post…
@Pavel – I thought this might be one of the first comments
The thought behind the theme is to just be a basic video browser, where the front page just shows the latest video post. You then browse through the others in the sidebar.
Its looking good!
Probably going to be a big hit!
Really looking forward to the groovy video theme… like really really really looking forward to that one. This one is okay. One bit of critisism: I’d like to see the sidebar actually reflect the page you are on. If you hit a link thats near the bottom of the list, it loads that page but resets the list. It’d be nice if that list followed what page you are on.
Good work either way.
PS. Hurry up on the groovy video one!! Holy crap!
@Tony – Good point with the sidebar refecting the post you are viewing. It now shows the post you are viewing at the top each time
Wow Lovely theme Jepson, +10
By the way, your last line of the post
)
[ So please switch of your TV ] – That’ll be Switch oFF xD xD (no offence, um in funny mood
One thing more, I’m not really sure but if we post or embed videos from youtube, google or something. As far as I know they are smaller in resolution than your Post Video Area, howz it gonna do?
It’s gonna resize it to 640x360px.
You can see youtube examples in our demo.
Television sets did not begin appearing in most homes until the 50′s…but whatever. Its a nice theme. Well done.
Gr8 theme , glad to see a new concept theme.
@Brian – According to Wikipedia, it was 1929…
this is great theme, thanks
If you want to see WooTube in action on a real site, then have a look here -> http://www.tubeguitar.com
It’s a site I setup over a year ago, and changed it to WooTube yesterday
This theme looks outstanding.
It’s amazing how ‘blogging’ has diversified into looking more like normal websites now, when compared to the original blogging formats.
The WooTube theme looks brilliant and I take my hat off to the designers on a job well done!
Love your themes, you keep making new ones that I need to buy
rock on
Am I missing something…?
Does WooTube not support embedding videos hosted on our own server (or at least not on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)?
I was thinking WooTube would support creating video podcasts.
You can embed whatever you want, be it locally uploaded or vimeo, YT, etc.
That’s great news, Magnus.
So, if I want to embed an MP4 or M4V, is there a built-in option to attach a “poster frame” image as well?
What options are there for creating an iTunes-compatible podcast?
Unfortunately there isn’t any built in “poster” option for the vids. I’m not sure what is required to make the post iTunes compatible, so you might have to search good old google for that
W00t! Do you guys ever sleep?
You guys keep rasing the bar. Cant wait to use this thanks.
It’s a really lovely theme Adii. Bravo!
