We know February has been a bit slower compared to the previous 2 / 3 months, but it must be as a result of the extreme heat here in South Africa (where I’m based) and the icy coldness over there in Norway (which Magnus calls home). So instead of focussing on some of our upcoming club themes, we’ve been in a giving mood…
Along with the free icon set we released last week, we’d like to announce the release of our brand-new free theme: Irresistible, which now becomes our 5th free theme release. The theme was designed by Izuddin Helmi and was a Top 10 winner in the WooContest of last year.
Irresistible (demo here) is a personal blog theme, with a little bit of a multimedia focus. The idea was to great a visually-rich design that accomodate your written content, lifestream and all of your multimedia content as well. Nothing flashy; just a cool personal blog theme, with the standard WooThemes backend goodness thrown in there as well.
So enjoy this free release and if you’re impressed with the quality of the theme, consider buying one of our premium themes.

Nice! Love those transparent dropdowns
Good job guys!
Guys, this is awesome!
Thanks for sharing a beautful design with the world.
Good stuff – solid, and nice of you to offer it free. You do dat sh*t man;-)
This theme should be nominated as the best free theme
Great work guys!
Hi guys,
Great theme I installed on a test blog but I am disappointed because it is impossible to use the embed video widget in the sidebar. There is no widget in the admin and nothing in the options. So what ? I have to buy support to be able to include video in the sidebar ? Did I miss something ?
I’ll give you a hint on that one… To make the video player show a video simply follow these instructions:
1. Add a new post
2. Copy your video embed code into the Irresistible Custom Setting field (probably at the bottom of your post page)
3. Tag your post with “video”
4. Publish!
when I activeded this theme my dashboard is down and my blog also, so I can’t use it …
Thanks Magnus ! Did not have a look at the post page yet ! Will test it now !
Here is a screenshot too: http://www.woothemes.com/demo/irresistible/?p=154
It’s me again… I found a mistake on the single.php. The designer put some text that gives “19 comments”…etc… it is also on the demo !
Cheers – Those are always hard to spot while testing… I’ll fix it now and update
I installed the them and I’m a little disappointed because the theme does not look like the preview picture that was released a while back. Unless I’m missing something.
@Overkast – We decided that we would change it a bit, because it would have been very hard to make the original home page work as widgets, and it had some elements that not everybody would get to use, so we thought a more general approach would suit everyone better.
Sorry to let you down though…
I can’t imagine you give this for free, it looks too good
Great work! It’s a pity I can’t use it right now
Where is the Newsport theme? It is the perfect theme for an online magazine and I can’t wait for you guys to release this great theme! Please make this one next in the month of Feb!
Dear WooThemes team,
I am sorry to say that this theme does not look anything like the preview. As it currently stands, this theme is too much of nothing. I would prefer to pay to get the full version rather than having a crippled version for free that just looks like the majority of WP themes with an additional nice background.
That said, your collection does have some really good themes (particularly the ones from Mark Forrester) and the initial designs were innovative and intriguing. Good examples also include ‘Abstract’ and ‘Proudfolio’ which although they are not my particular cup of tea i find them very unique and special. I understand that one cannot like all themes but some of your themes are really average if not a disappointment. I bet that your statistics will confirm this. In my opinion, you should focus on developing themes that will follow a ‘general approach’ philosophy but at the same time they will retain their unique personality. Again i think the above examples reflect my thoughts clearly. You should not fall in the trap of producing themes just for the sake of producing them. I am particularly referring to Magnus who released a very nice theme and then his next releases were basically variations of the first theme. In addition, Adii should design less and focus on what he is doing best: running the business (i find his business model interesting). Of course my opinion doesn’t reflect everyone’s view but as a customer i thought i should state my perspective. Thanks for your time (and space)!
We appreciate the feedback, and we did discuss if we should make the layout like the original or not, but decided against it in the end.
Some of our themes are better than other for sure, but it’s all rather subjective. I don’t like Thick personally, but it is very popular. I do like Marks latest theme too, but that hasn’t been popular.
I’m not sure which theme you are referring to when you said I designed a niche theme. I’ve made Over Easy, Busy Bee and WooTube, and they are all totally different themes. I made Busy Bee which is a magazine theme (not a niche) and then used the styling for that to make WooTube, since it is a totally different theme type, and the BB style is very popular. And it has gone down very well according to our statistics. We find our reasons for using BB style in WooTube perfectly reasonable, and we aren’t producing just to produce…
It’s great that you have your own views, but we do have quite a good overview of our business and we know which themes are popular and not, so we are thinking through on every theme we release, and on how to make it the best possible.
In the end we felt that, as a free theme, Irresistible would appeal more to the personal bloggers (who don’t cash out for themes), if the layout was changed as we have done.
Thanks for your input though
I’m working on NewsPort next week. Lets hope the forum calms down on amount of IE6/7 fixes
Irresistible looks sharp. I’m sure many users will be happy with the free offering, and it will make an excellent personal publishing platform.
As a subscriber, I look forward to some of the new themes set to launch in March.
Josh
Great theme, I love it. I got it running in no time and the video sidebar looks and works great. Thanks
I want to buy one of your ‘News’ themes, so as a trial I downloaded a couple of your free ones. And boy did my site get twisted sideways! lol. Do these themes merge well with an existing site?
They should merge well, but it all depends on what you put in “twisted sideways”
Plugins could interfere with the themes javascript, but other than that there shouldn’t be any problems, if you set it up correctly
Oh I have no doubt the problem is on my end
. I will try to turn off the plugins to see if that helps. Your themes are amazing and if I can get it to work, you’ve def got my money.
Wow guys – I had been eagerly waiting for this theme when I saw it on your “upcoming preview” post. It was my favorite of the list and low and behold its FREE!
Fantastic insight on developing this theme and a big, huge THANKS for making it freely available.
Keep up the great work.
@DR – Wow… You think I should design less?
Just so you know… Since WooThemes started, VibrantCMS has been our second-most popular theme (according to sales stats). So it seems some people at least appreciate my design work…
I wouldn’t mind it if you made the original version available… even if it was raw html or without widgets…
The preview posted a few weeks ago is magnificent, though I completely understand why you chose to take the “general” path. It really does make more sense to make sure a general version is available, but wouldn’t it make even more sense to release the first version as well? Sorta like a “download this OR this” thing..
Dear Adii and Magnus,
I had no intention to offend anyone. I am very happy with the theme I bought awhile back and I just thought I should share some thoughts with you. I was very hesitant to post my views (as I am not a designer) but I really admire your effort and business model. Your business decisions and overall strategy are obviously based on empirical evidence (stats) which I do not possess and your approach in the short term it does make a lot of sense. That said, in the long run product differentiation is vital. Mark’s themes follow this general approach and so do ‘Abstract’ and ‘Proudfolio’. Nevertheless, at the same time they all retain a unique style something which in the long run, as your business expands, will become increasingly important. Irresistible’s original concept was balanced and really intriguing as well.
Magnus correctly said that taste is rather subjective. My point has to do more with the ‘en mass’ production of themes which I noticed started happening, probably in order to keep up with the number of releases that you promised, and less with looks. Magnus’ theme concepts are brilliant but in my opinion applying the same styling to all of them is a big mistake. The same goes for FreshNews and FreshFolio. They all look (although each has different purpose) more or less the same. I hope you see my point here and that you will resist the temptation of repeating that in the future (its fast and easy but in the long run it will do more harm than good). Now, compare VibrantCMS (another great theme indeed) with Over Easy. They both target the same audience but both have unique characteristics that make them special (for different reasons to everyone).
Anyway, I hope the above help. Again I am talking as a customer and not as a designer (I’m an economist!).
I would say that are themes are more with looks for evey theme we do produce, which is what makes them so good
I’m not applying the same styling to my themes, except for WooTube which has adopted BB styling. I think you are mistaking styling for personal designer style. If I could make designs like Jason Santa Maria, I probably would make a lot of different designs, but I have to stick to what I know best
But we are getting WAY of topic, as this post is all about our latest FREE release. We hope everybody will enjoy this release even though there will be a couple who don’t agree with our change of layout. In the end, we have to go with what we think is reasonable and best suiting for the people who download our free themes.
@DR – I definitely didn’t take offense; my comment was very much tongue-in-cheek!
I hear what you’re saying and you wouldn’t be the first to voice that opinion with regards to our themes.
You are however spot-on in saying that we have the emperical data, which allows us to make accurate decisions going forward. And I think we’ve been pretty blessed in the last few months in terms of making the correct decisions in this regard. But that doesn’t mean that we do not consider the opinions & feedback from our users; as we’ve managed to tweak our activities on numerous occassions based on input from our users.
since u released the psd as well, is it 100% ? is it ok if i use the original design, modify it, convert it to html and use it on my commercial website ?
@Amzan – Yes you can
Mangus,
Are there specific plugins that I should not have turned on so that I can switch over to one of your themes? I currently have the following activated:
Adman
Akismet
del.icio.us widget
Events Calendar
Flexible upload
Google XML Sitemaps
Simple:Press Forum
Subscriptions Icons
WP-Polls
WP-Polls Widget
Thanks
@Jay – None of those plugins should cause an error. Remember that our themes come with a Theme Options panel, which you need to setup before the theme will work.
Great theme guys! I installed irresistible but the top navigation breaks when viewed on IE 6.0.2. On my vista machine with IE 7 all is well.
Thought I’d let u know because I’m sure there’s a ton of people still using IE6 so it won’t show up properly.
I did set it up in the Theme Options panel and don’t have any other plugins that could conflict.
Note: it also broke when i tested on your demo site.
Keep up the great work! And thanks for another great free theme!
mrhugo – It was the transparency fix that was making it misbehave. I’ve fixed it in the new version now… replace includes/js/pngfix.js
Guys, maybe you should do the original version too
So many people asking me to code as the original design, around 15-20 people.
I’ll look into it
Added an optional homepage to Irresistible now due to popular demand
Not 100% like the original but I think it resembles it good enough without making the theme hard to work with.
Check out our demo: http://www.woothemes.com/demo/irresistible/
Magnus – following this thread its fantastic to see you and Adii are staying cool and listening to your users. I was just thrilled to see you make Irresistible free, but now you throw an optional home page mirroring the original comp!
This is how you build a loyal fanbase my friend.
Hi, love your new irresistible theme. Having probelms setting up a static front page ie. have created a home and blog page but end up with 2 homes in the top menu and it won’t link to either from the top?
Can you help?
@Grant – You dont’ create a page called home, you just activate it in the options panel.
Hi Magnus, still can’t seem to get that to work. I want to run a static home page and blogs on a blog page. I have enabled homepage under options but dosen’t seem to do anything?
I really love all the work you do which is why I am a subscriber. But I wish you had kept the “my portfolio” section in. What was the reason for taking it out?
As stated earlier, we wanted to keep this as a personal blog, and if we add a portfolio, then it would make this theme harder to setup and we’d have to use the image resizer.
You can still add it by modifying the custom homepage, and just add images with static links to the post/page. We left the MyPortfolio header in the images folder also.
@Selena – Because otherwise the theme becomes extremely bloated in terms of what it tries to achieve (being a personal blog, video blog & portfolio at once). And considering that most people would not be using the portfolio anyway, we felt it made sense to exclude it.
@Selena – To make it easier for you I’ve added the MyPortfolio section to the custom-home.php file now, so you can add your own images + links manually in the code, but it isn’t automated for the reasons stated above.
@Magnus – Thanks for doing that. It helps me alot!
@Adii – I totally understand the bloated aspect..but I am taking out the video portion and now that I can put in my portfolio (which is actually photos), I don’t need the flickr box. Many thanks for the quick response!
Wow, the best support I’ve ever seen.:P
Now my mailbox empty back. LOL. Thx guys.
I agree with Taylor. Great work!!
Love this theme, thank you.
One question: I’m a Premium Subscriber, can I remove “Woo Footer”?
It’s a free theme so you can do what you want with it
Nice, thank you.
Btw, what should I add to custom-home.php in order to change width of blog area?
man are you serious this for free :-}}}}}} i can’t believe such a nicely designed could be free and now don’t tell me that you regret it hehe
damn..like found gold! thanks for damn good clean theme! thanks to original design and u to!
@Magnus Jepson
Hi. I’ve searched through the code but I haven’t found this: how can I set the width of main blog/content area of custom-home.php so it’s the same width of default index.php?
I have bought 2 of your themes and love them, but irresistible does not work and corrupts my WP
found 3 plugin not working with this theme
Lightbox <-aw i really like this man..to bad not working!
Simple tag
Check link broken
Does this theme not show the post tags? I see categories, but no post tags.
I would love to test this theme to see if it’s worth becoming a member, but apparently, there’s a lock down on information about how to use this thing.
It won’t play videos, despite having copied the youtube embed code into the extra field and tagging the post with “video”
@Peter – We assure you that it will play youtube videos, but you’ll have to purchase support access so we can help you out in the forum with that.
This theme is beautiful, but not work in my wp.
Help! When I choose to use the Customized Homepage, it turns out that I can’t view my blog in pages. For example, “http://mysite.com/page/3″ doesn’t work.
btw, I love this theme very much! thx~
Not trying to spam for traffic. I just finished customizing this theme: http://chasingbear.com.
Irresistible is awesome! Thanks for your work on this — I am a painter and taught myself table-based layouts a couple of years ago. I’m also a marketer, so very aware and frustrated with the limitations of my web design/programming viability, especially regarding presenting my own art and ideas. This theme has allowed me to get smart about my web presence. Couldn’t have done it w/out the theme!
@ChasingBear – For a guy who only knows tables, you did a helluva good job!
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_pagenavi() in /home/scottfor/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/irresistible/functions/admin-setup.php on line 162
how do I fix this
I really love this theme although my one issue is the background transparency in IE7, it seems to fade from left to right (with the right side essentially having no bg). Is there a way to make this word like it does in Firefox, Safari etc?
Cheers for the hard work.
I picked up this theme just after it was released knowing it would be great for a future project I had in mind, i decided to put it into action yesterday before realising that it was the original version without the custom homepage.. and now it seems the free themes have been discontinued as all go to a 404!
I will be HUGELY disappointed if I can’t get hold of the updated files as it is fairly integral to what I had in mind – is there any way?
Maybe if you would have included a website link, someone could have contacted you and emailed it to you.
ah, well the site is not live yet whilst I work on getting it all sorted out, hence why I did not include it – but I get the point, apologies.
for the record, if anyone does want to help me out I would REALLY appreciate it, I can be contacted at caelen [at] gmail.com
Many thanks for the reply peter
Relax, We haven’t removed the free themes
We had an issue with the some hotlink protection on our site, but we’ve resolved it now, so you can download. This only affected a few ppl.
@caelen I’m able to download the theme just fine by going to the theme page. (Click the pic above)
Ah well then ignore my comment. Magnus and I must have posted at the sametime
Thank-you SO much Magnus! I read your “Freebie Culture” blog post and presumed you had decided to do things a bit differently and withdraw the free themes, so it is a HUGE relief that wasn’t the case.
Thank-you again for distributing such awesome themes, both free and premium, despite some feedback you might get – some of us really appreciate it
Thank you to the poster who noted that the lightbox plugin doesn’t work with this theme. That’s a little disappointing, as it’s something that I really like having with my images. BUT, it’s also helpful to know that I wasn’t crazy and that there’s a reason the tabbed sidebars weren’t working.
Lightbox 2 works with it. I’m using it now.
http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/
Just add rel=”lightbox” or rel=”lightbox[groupname]” to your image tags.
My View Archives re-directs to the home page, so basically going no where. How do I get it to go to the page like in the demo??
@Scott I get the same error on WP 2.7.1 “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_pagenavi(…” @Overkast it seems like this is a pretty bad bug no?
@boltron – pagenavi is included in the theme so disable your plugin.
Does this theme not have png fix support for IE6? I viewed the demo on this site in IE6 and the transparent gray blocks are not transparent in IE6. Awesome theme apart from that!
No we had to turn off the transparency for those blocks as we could not get it to display properly…
I found that this theme can’t work with flexible upload plugin. The upload form that should be open on pop up overlay like lightbox, it open in new page. This action will discard the draft post.
Like many others apparently from preceding comments, having trouble with video widget after following directions explicitly.
Any additional helps?
How come the date doesn’t show up in the Lifestream? Any way to make it show up?
Is there a possibility to get the tabs working with lightbox?
