Win Our Domains!
26. Feb, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Contests
It’s competition time around here again… For a while now, I’ve had both wpressd.com & wpmag.com registered with the idea of using them for some kind of WordPress-related (duh!) project. The sad truth is however that I’ve never had enough time to invest in developing these domains into something that justifies the quality of the domain names.
So I’ve decided to give both of these domains away, in the hope that someone else will develop them and do them justice. Obviously the idea is that the projects will both contribute back to the WP community; so we all stand to gain from this!
Here’s what you can win:
- One of the two domains: wpressd.com or wpmag.com;
- Any theme (of your choice) from our collection to get your new domain cracking; and
- We’ll even do a little follow-up blog post once you have launched the new site.
And it is so easy to win:
Simply comment below and tell us what you would do with one of these domains, should you own either of them. The best idea will then get the domain and the other freebies that go along with that.
We look forward to your ideas!

What a brilliant competition! I’ve had an idea for a while now that I would use wpressd.com for.
I would set up a site not all too dis-similar from designfloat but exclusively for Wordpress content – there would be categories for themes, plugins, hacks, tutorials, showcases, news, reviews, and probably a few more which I haven’t thought of yet!
I’ve been trying to come up with a wordpress related name for this idea for ages but just haven’t come up with “the one” yet – wpressd.com would be perfect! The button to vote for a story would be “press it” and after clicking it it would read “pressd”
Hopefully this would be a brilliant resource for the Wordpress community and the niche-ness of it would set it apart from the rest!
Although the site wouldn’t run Wordpress, the blog would – so I would of course use a WooTheme for that and theme the rest of the site to match it!
Please gimme!

I like the idea of running a WordPress magazine, a la A List Apart but with WordPress tips and tricks. It could also have sections about new and popular plugins, themes and WordPress news. If there was enough interest, there could even be interviews.
Obviously it would use a WooTheme
26 February 2009 at 6:40 am #
Neat idea Adii!
I would probably start up a beginners WP site complete with tutorials & bare-bones skills to help from the word go. I’d also like to incorporate a showcase for some incredible WP sites to show others what WP can do as I am constantly impressed by what WP can do.
I dont have a lot of experience with WP so it’d give me a great insight into developing with WP too. I would just need someone to help with Content.

For some time now I have wanted to start a WordPress related blog, so this couldn’t have come at a more perfect time for me in more ways than one! – Now I might not be the absolute best when it comes to knowing much about coding themes, plugins, hacks (You name it in fact!)
But I do my best in working out what things are for what!
(Hmm, don’t even know if all or any of that made sense?!) LOL
The trouble is I already own a WordPress related domain, yet I’m starting to like WPMag.com – In my eyes, it’s a GREAT domain, and you can do quite a lot with it! – More of a prefessional, type of site, then what my domain could be looked at!
To answer your question though!…
WPressd.com – This domain sounds like one I’d use for talking about other WordPress sites. What I mean, is, that it sounds like a site were you would discuss sites that converted from something else over to WordPress?! If you understood that, it’s a possibility for that.
When it comes to the other one!…
WPMag.com – I’d much prefer this domain, as there is no stopping you when it comes to talking about WordPress. While you can with both, I believe this one is more suited for doing that.
As with most magazines out there, I’d try to get some interviews going, post about all the latest news, featured sections! Even have room for people to guest post, not to mention tutorials, themes, plugins. Another way I could look at it is, instead of guest posts, just allow certain people to publish posts similar to how magazines work!
I know it’s not original, but it’s simple, and I’m sure you can build up a good brand with the name. Might take a little bit of time though!
Well that’s my ideas anyway!
Thanks
Mark

I don’t think that Woo employees are eligible but still, wpmag.com is a great domain for my upcoming Wordpress tips and tricks blog.
Great giveway guys!

You guys know that we’re just stealing your ideas, right!?
Hehe… Nah, only joking!
Great ideas thus far! Keep ‘em coming!

WPmag would be ideal for a project I had thought about a few months back.
I wanted to make a WordPress Magazine sort of like WPCandy, which seems to have been abandoned
However, I opted for more outbound links – sort of a magazine-styled aggregator of WordPress a la thegridsystem.org, along with in-house blog posts.
This way, not only is the site very frequently updated, but it also provides unique content.
Plus a little tiny nifty idea I wouldn’t like to divulge publicly before I do it first :p
26 February 2009 at 7:49 am #
With a customized WooTheme, of course :p
26 February 2009 at 8:30 am #
I have a project that involves Premium themes – free and paid – and Wordpress related (design & coding) prefessional articles, mainly for Romania but not only; wpmag.com would be ideal.
26 February 2009 at 9:16 am #
My Idea.
Make a “Whale Patron” Site aka “Save the Wales”.
And with the domain WPmag.com the corresponding “WhalePatron Magazine”.
Thats my little Idea for the Nature.
I think there are enough WordPress Sites.
26 February 2009 at 9:32 am #
Having worked on creating wordpress plugins, I would offer to create customized wordpress plugins for a fee as well as offer a substantial set of plugins for free. These sets will use existing publicly available official and unofficial APIs, and existing front end libraries to push the functionality and use boundaries of the Wordpress content management system. Officially they would be hosted elsewhere for version control but all the docs and latest version would be hosted at either domains.
I would also write an application with a specific eye for usability and getting wordpress developers contracts for developing wordpress plugins for small businesses who have purchased a Woo theme

I’ll actually go against the grain here and say that I would love the wpressd.com domain. I’ll be building, as a sort of side project here soon, a simple Digg-ish site for WordPress stories/bookmarks. I see something super simple and condensed, most likely one column (think single-serving sites). I think wpressd.com would work really well as the domain.
Now, as I see it the best use of the wpmag.com domain would be a tie between something elite like A List Apart’s publication (which is really too hard to launch/manage/guarantee success) and (what is probably more likely) a place, a gallery, to display all of the WordPress “magazine themes” out there right now. I think I’d be the prime candidate to put something like that together, since I’ve done so much research into WordPress magazine themes already. Could be complete with guides on what makes a WordPress theme a magazine, and how to add those functions into your WordPress theme.
Overall, great idea in giving away the domains like this. I look forward to seeing what comes out of it!

I’d love to win wpmag. I’m currently a Uni student in the UK on a Business Studies course. The course I’m currently on looks at investigating entrepreunerial opportunities. A snag we’ve all hit is developing our ideas and websites. So I would run it as a free site for small businesses packed with hints and tips.
26 February 2009 at 12:06 pm #
With wpmag.com I would cover the trends of WordPress, where its going and how its used. Feature designers/developers, cite reference material, interviews, and discussions. Including the history and evolution of WordPress and its impact on the web.
A place where visitors could see new themes then read about WordPress and Plugins or browse how-to articles and get creative input and tips from top designers/developers and also feature up and comers. I also believe that having sections dedicated to users of all levels would be a huge benefit.
I would be the first choice destination when someone thinks about WordPress.
I can go on all day but I have go back to work.
26 February 2009 at 12:42 pm #
For wpressd.com it would have to be a site all about squeezing & pressing the most out of wordpress. The site would be devoted to showcasing & helping others push wp to the max, dispelling the myth that it’s just a simple blogging tool.
It would feature articles, tutorials, podcasts & screencasts to help all wp users achieve more.
While domain names help, content and execution of the idea is what counts. Oh and it’d also be a wicked earner in the woothemes affiliate program
26 February 2009 at 12:51 pm #
Adi and Others,
Thanks for keeping the light of “innovation” burning in this little corner of the net. You guys definitely know how to “inspire” and “excite”. And that would be the theme of my “www.wpmag.com”. Built on “Fresh News”, it will be a wordpress evangelist website that will showcase evangelists and developers from across the world in a social media rich environment. I have a strong belief in story telling, and as a strong wordpress evangelist here in Ottawa, Canada, I have on more than one occasion felt a strong need to showcase the people attached with the platform – people who are making a sincere effort to take the platform forward, people whose work stands out as “flagship development” in the domain and people who “inspire and excite” all of us in the community. The idea, as I mentioned before, is to create a visually rich magazine that will profile people. This is the proper time and the proper opportunity for me to take it out, because I will seek your support to do this – atleast in the form of my first three interviews.
Many thanks.
Cheers,
Manu

Hi, great ideea for the contest.
I would like wpmag.com or wpressd.com as a personal blog (blogging about wp and web design as passion … maybe a portfolio section also), i try to find a good name for a while now but nothing came to my attention really…these are great.
Sorry for my english:)
Thanks

To be honest the idea of starting up a WordPress themed blogged never really entered my mind. But the idea of starting a blog on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has. The only problem is that there are tons of these blogs out there. However, this contest has giving me an idea, an SEO blog centered on optimizing the WordPress platform.
Sure I’ve seen blog post on WordPress SEO tips and plugins. But I haven’t seen a blog solely dedicated to the topic. I’m not quite sure though as I have not done extensive research.
The blog would highlight SEO benefits, advantages, disadvantages, of new plug-ins, themes, and monetization opportunities. For example the new canonical link plug-in, why you need it, when to use it, who needs it.
Feature would include a rate my blogs SEO, where readers can submit their blog and be given SEO advice on how to improve the overall internal and external SEO of the site. Advice can range from simple SEO plug-ins and meta data optimization to linking building and social media marketing. Authors that are using WordPress wisely in terms of their SEO and internet marketing, design, and concept would be featured.
Advice would also be given to the overall general public. To WordPress users be it a person who is using WordPress as a portfolio, business, or personal blog, what themes, plug-ins would work best and the best SEO implementation for what they are trying to accomplish.
Other features would include interviews with some of the top designers, developers and companies creating innovative WordPress designs like WooThemes. OK cheap pop
Interviews from top marketers in the SEO community, and guest post.
WPMag would be a great domain and I can see using Busy Bee.
26 February 2009 at 2:08 pm #
Simple…
With quality domains like that, all you need is quality content, and a great design to go along with it. Here is what I would do with wpmag.com
1. Smashing Magazine type of content, but Wordpress related only. Bringing all things Wordpress related to one website.
2. With the thousands of readers I would gain from my awesome content, I would leverage that traffic to promote the WooThemes affiliate program. Growing your site and brand, and ultimately putting more green in your pocket
26 February 2009 at 2:10 pm #
What a great challenge! I just got me a new mobile device and intend to use it for blogging, for the hack of it.
So I will have to find workarounds for all those small bugs/problems that come with trying to be mobile and blogging on a self hosted WordPress blog, plus adapting a theme for that purpose. I am already in the midst of getting started and are looking very much forward to the endeavour.
The scope of this blog will be everything that surfaces on a busy day or night out and about and will be enriched by imagery taken and edited on the run.
26 February 2009 at 8:37 pm #
I’d like to use wpressd.com to facilitate the showcasing of freelance wordpress designers and developers. In some ways, a profile for successful and fresh wordpress enthusiasts to display their portfolios and pick up new work.
Ideally I’d like it to become a hub for clients looking for custom wordpress jobs, and designers/developers looking for freelance work related to wordpress.
I hope I haven’t re-iterated what someone has already said.
Thanks.
26 February 2009 at 8:50 pm #
I would use the wpmag.com domain name and probably a porforlio type of theme from you to showcase not the some of the coolest WordPress Themes, nor the latest WordPress News, but some cool bloggers that I find on the internet for a short review. I would do that manually, because it would lack quality if I would open a submit page for those who want to be featured.
While I’d use the wpressd.com domain for WordPress Daily Updates, like themes, plugins and so, yeah, there are tons of such blogs out there, but it won’t hurt if a teenager would start one too, aside wpressd really sounds slick as a Wordpress Diary. haha.
Great opportunity to win something from you guys, good luck to everyone.
26 February 2009 at 9:41 pm #
I would use the wpmag.com. I want to turn it to smashingmazine.com version of WordPress. News, tips and trick, freebies, feed aggregator. With your theme, it will be awesome (note: i would let everyone knows that the wpmag use Woo Themes)
Of course i won’t forget you, Woo Themes – lifetime banner on the wpmag.com.
27 February 2009 at 4:19 am #
I would love to use WpMag.com – it just seems to stand out to me.
What I would do with it is create something like WebsiteMagazine.com but for WordPress.
Hopefully that would be a community where some wordpress designers, plugin creators and other wordpress enthusiasts can come together to share ideas, release themes, give tutorials, gain feedback from others in the community, disucss and review themes and plugins, showcase some excellent wordpress designs, and maybe even expand it into including a job board for those selling and buying wordpress services
27 February 2009 at 8:00 am #
I want wpmag.com for a Wordpress-centered online magazine. I love WP, and would love to publish content about it as well as create a shared resource for all us WP developers (themes, news, etc).
Just think, our own magazine, just for Wordpress. Maybe even a quarterly printed magazine!
27 February 2009 at 8:20 am #
I want wpmag.com for a news website in french about Wordpress and the blog’s world.
27 February 2009 at 8:59 am #
i’d use it to build a healthy news station for all things wordpress, completely powered by the community: wpmag.com
it would be awesome!
27 February 2009 at 10:37 am #
Oh and wpressd.com would probably fit nicely in a PSD/xHTML to Wordpress service.
Let me know
.
27 February 2009 at 1:59 pm #
I’d like to use http://wpressed.com/ for a PSD to Wordpress service, similar to WPCoder but with its own funky feel!
27 February 2009 at 5:10 pm #
Either domain would work for me. I have been collecting links and planning a Wordpress site for beginners. It would be concise and cover the latest WP news, the best themes, plugin reviews, how to maneuver through WP, and how to drive traffic to their blog via social networking and other techniques. .
I realize that this doesn’t sound like a new idea – but I can tell you as a self taught WP user (with no real web training) that there is not a website for WP newbies that is easy to understand, thorough, and easy to navigate. The layout sites have many broken links and so many themes you couldn’t possibly see them all…and many are low quality themes. The tutorial sites are mostly MLM or opt-in sites, that require a great deal of patience to use.
I have the time, passion, and skills to put one of your domains to good use.
Thank you for your consideration.
Amie
28 February 2009 at 4:12 am #
wpmag.com, this is suit for magizine, i will use it to build any thing related to wordpress only such as news, freebies, trick, technical, tutorial, discuss particular wordpress topic
and i will install buddypress to wpressd.com to build wordpress social and any topic related wordpress.
28 February 2009 at 7:36 pm #
I already have a domain with a similar idea and I am sure the concept will also do great for WPMag.com
If I win WPMag.com, I would be making a most simplistic, elegant design offering free resources of WP to newbies.
The website will have four important and dedicated sections
1. Best Wordpress Site Gallery
2. Wordpress Resources/Templates/Plugins
3. Wordpress Tutorials
4. Wordpress Discussion Forum
These Services will be 100% free. After a while, adding a very light job board or classified section will help people to look and hire WP Designers and Coders.
To prove, I have already worked and working on some successful projects with a Team and giving or investing time should not be a concern to develop this domain.
This wont be just another project. It will be a chance to give something back to the community.

A great idea Adi.
If I had any of them. I’d make the blog a complete guide of Wordpress that even a one who doesn’t know the meaning of blog can learn. Content from, What is Blog, What is CMS, What is Wordpress till Wordpress SEO, theme making, and more depth etc.. will be there.
A guidance blog for all.
1 March 2009 at 4:09 pm #
adding to my above post, – Tutorials, Freebies, themes, How-to’s will also be there.
1 March 2009 at 11:02 pm #
I’d make wpressed.com a site where you can get your white shirts ironed and steam cleaned.
For a fee of course.
1 March 2009 at 11:34 pm #
I would run contest on the site for my domain collection.
3 March 2009 at 1:00 am #
I would take the Wordpress Mag idea and create monthly issues that got released on the 01st of every month.
Each issue would be a separate Wordpress installation tied into one database so users have access to each monthly “issue”.
The issue would be taking some of the best Wordpress themes out there, filling it up with quality and content related to only Wordpress, Wordpress Extensions, Tips, New Styles, and other things community related.
We could have a team that constantly has issues about what’s new w/ webdevelopers and how to take new webscripts and mods and make the most of their Wordpress installations via combining good script and design.
At the same time it’s all sampled and every month the user can see everything written in the e-mag first hand on that issue.
A toolbar would also be put on the top so users can quickly navigate through different monthly issues.
Currently I am marketing executive for a website solutions company and we have a few dedicated servers and we’d be able to handle a very large amount of traffic.
3 March 2009 at 8:38 am #
To be brutally honest, I would sell wpmag to the highest bidder!
3 March 2009 at 2:11 pm #
Well, this isn’t very original (many great minds think alike), but I will try to answer in detail. I would turn wpmag.com into the ultimate slick, magazine-style site about WordPress — similar to Smashing Magazine but only about WordPress (as many have said).
The site would have clearly defined sections/”departments” clearly segmented for the various audiences:
– Novices looking for great themes, hosting and also WP designers.
– WP developers looking for inspiration and community.
– Everyone in between, for example, people who want to heavily customize existing themes.
The site would, of course, be the ultimate WP portal, featuring:
– Latest news about WP, theme providers*, WPMU, BuddyPress, etc.
– Tips, tricks and free downloads (some of the great “freemium” themes, for example)
– A marketplace for people looking for WP designers, and possibly for designers looking for work
– Lots of interaction and community
– A WPMU installation offering free blogs, like WordPress.com.
*Proper homage would always be given to WooThemes in appreciation for the domain. But, to truly be a comprehensive WP resource, the site would feature all theme providers who are worthy of being featured. This reflects the true spirit of most of the theme providers…for example many of the best WP theme designers interact with each other: WooThemes team, Jason Schuller, Brian Gardner, Cory Miller, etc. So the WPMag.com site would also share this community spirit and not be biased toward any one theme provider.
Of course, I would want the site to support itself and be profitable.
I would monetize the site in a few ways:
1) With affiliate links from the various commercial theme providers we feature.
2) By promoting my own firm’s WP design/customization skills. (We focus on customizing existing themes to get sites up quickly.)
3) As mentioned above, we could also include ads to create a marketplace for WP designers and people looking for designers. Even though we would promote our own design offerings, this portal should be far too big for us to handle all the available business.
4) By promoting my web hosting firm’s WP hosting. I would resist the temptation to use affiliate links from the overcrowded hosting providers, because I truly believe that my firm offers a better hosting product.
5) The free blogs offered via WPMU would be monetized with a tasteful amount of advertising inserted into users’ blogs in certain instances…just like WordPress.com.
I have been developing a site called wpthemecentral.com, offering one-stop shopping for the best free and premium themes, but those efforts would be rolled into the WPMag.com site instead. I love the idea of a more comprehensive WP portal site instead of just a theme site.
I am a perfectionist, and I would devote the proper time and attention to making this site a huge success and contribute greatly to the WordPress community.
I know that this post includes some ideas that others have also brought up, and I’m not trying to steal or borrow those thoughts. The name “WPMag” conjures up many of these thoughts.
Good luck to everyone!
Mark Bailey

This is a great idea guys! I’d love to be in the mix as well…
We’re looking for a new project to go along with the revamp of fixmypcnow.com, orangeapplegroup.com, and theswankcity.com.
WPMag: seems like a no-brainer for a Wordpress fanboy site. I mean that in the nicest way possible, of course. Feature articles from various other hot design blogs revolving around wordpress. Original content for n00bs and pro’s alike. Discussing plugins, themes, scaling, caching/opitimization, etc… Prominent ad placement for our partner site, Woo Themes. We’d definitely give this the TLC it deserves.
WPressd: Personally, I would want a traditional style blog ordered chronologically that details various blogs running Word Press. I know it’s been done before, but I think it can be done better and with more style.
Give us the change, guys. We’ll make you proud!
4 March 2009 at 12:05 am #
A Site dedicated to helping people accomplish 3 simple yet needed things:
-Seeing the value of making something great and getting it out to people via a blog.
-Finding valuable tools and ideas to get them started and succeeding.
-Building sites dedicated to excellence and community.
4 March 2009 at 4:26 pm #
I would end-up putting together a “magazine with a twist.” Some sort of community magazine where pretty much anybody could write articles and submit links to a link feed. There would also be some aggregation in play, pulling headlines and 140-char excerpts from WordPress-related blogs, Twitter streams, etc.
The general idea is to have a site that would be a one-stop place to find out what’s happening the WordPress community, and for users to share their knowledge of the platform.
WPmag would obviously be a good fit for this, but wpressd would work as well.
5 March 2009 at 12:39 pm #
I would like to use either domain name to offer free articles, advice, galleries/showcases of everything WordPress.
5 March 2009 at 1:57 pm #
I would like to develop either into a site similar to Smashing Magazine or A List Apart that focuses only on WordPress related designing, hacks, usage, etc.
I think there is so much to discuss about WordPress that it should have a site similar to Smashing Magazine but with sole focus on WordPress.
I would include: Forum (bbpress, of course!) so users can share and ask for coding help, design showcase for WordPress-related sites only, and news articles that focus on themes, designing, use, hacks, tricks, plugins, or even user submitted content via TDO Miniforms plugin.
Ideally, I could create this site to be very interactive (forums, users submitted news, etc) while constantly being updated.
I also want to release a few themes that I have already developed, including a theme that has many page layouts for ultimate styling, a new classifieds theme, and more.
I would also like to feature companies or individuals that are pioneers in the WordPress field, from amazing design skills (Hi WooThemes!!) to creative uses (Unstructured.org).
I think a great, easy to remember domain name is key to making this idea successful as it relies on user interaction. I would really like WPMag.com (first choice) or wpressd.com. I can see potential.
This is an idea I have had for sometime, but I am not ready to launch since I am missing a good domain name. I think Gotham News or NewsPort would be perfect themes for this purpose as well!
5 March 2009 at 3:45 pm #
I would use the wpmag.com domain to create a WordPress guide site. This is different than the straight magazine offerings because my focus would be on providing solutions, not just data and information, in the form of guides.
Are you new to WordPress and need to know how to get started? We have a guide for that. Looking to add some functionality to your WordPress blog? Select the function and we have a guide for that. If we don’t, ask and we will get it. Need to know how to maintain your blog and keep it running? How do I make money with my blog? If there is more than one solution, the guide will focus on that.
Site will be supported by the community and the community will be rewarded. Use a revenue sharing plan to ensure the best guide writers are compensated for their work. Will incorporate a rating scheme (along with comments) to keep guide writers honest.
Site will also showcase what is being done with WordPress. Will run regular contests (it is a magazine) for the best sites submitted, most innovative and great content.
Of course, the site will use a WooThemes (Fresh News or Busy Bee, I think) and all profits will be put back into the site (after expenses) for the revenue share and giveaways.
It is difficult finding a neutral third party out there with great content. Our guides will help everyone find that content. And if there are any ads on the site, it will be at a minimum.

I would love to have WPMag. I have an idea of creating a monthly/bi-weekly online magazine related to Word Press. It will have tutorials, tips, tricks and will also feature the best WordPress blogs on the Internet. I will also be roping in a small team. I am sure this would rock. If i get such a good good domain, it will be an added plus.
8 March 2009 at 5:43 pm #

Delete above post, was kinda lame
