All aboard?
26. Mar, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

After a day of frantic coding to get the last little bits of The Station done, I’m proud to present you with my latest theme offering – The Station. As you know, I don’t design much on WooThemes, but this time around I’m really excited to see what you will do with my creation!
At this stage, I must also give a lot of design credit to FRESH01 who polished the theme for me. He basically took my basic, unpolished version and turned it into something really eye-catching and hopefully special in all your opinions.
So what’s it about?
Without shame, I’d like to admit that The Station drew a lot of inspiration from the various Ellis Lab websites (such as Expression Engine). The main reason for this influence was their great (and trendy) manner in which they publish important information on the homepage, along with an extremely good information / navigation structure throughout their website.
So that is 100% where my focus was in designing this beauty. You can also be assured that this theme is intended to handle a helluva lot of information about your company, without a single bit of that falling off the way-side. A lot of thought and effort has gone into the different navigation spaces. We have also included quite a few options to allow you to actually customize all of these spaces.
The Goodies
Beyond the customizable navigation spaces, we’ve also included a spiffy new featured tabber, which allows you to emphasise the most important content (your most important messages). The rest of the homepage is also page-based, which gives you complete control over every character, paragraph, image & video that you want to include on the homepage.
I’ve also experiment with a new sidebar system, where you can choose between three different widgetized sidebars to be published along with the homepage, inner pages and blog-related pages. I hope that this will add value in terms of the choices that it presents to you: the user.
The Rest
Personally I’d love to evolve this theme and I can only do that with your feedback. So once you’ve played around with the theme, I’d be more than happy to listen to your suggestions. In the meantime, you can read up on the details of the theme, view the demo of The Station and consider signing up for our amazing club.

Looks great!
Keep up the good work.

Nice theme man. Love how clear/uncluttered it could make your company message.
One thought, the RSS icon in the sidebar of the home page. Is it suppose to overlap the heading “underline”?
26 March 2009 at 8:03 am #
I actually don’t mind it and kind of like it, just wondering though as the rest of the site is so “ordered”.

Very good theme. It has a nice clean look. Well done.

Very nice work Adii (& Fresh01)! I can see so much potiential with this theme. Thank you for another Rockstar theme

Hey there, been waiting for this one to come out!
A few things I’ve noticed.
When visiting a sub-sub page, the breadcrumb and left-nav are not working properly (Breadcrumb trail isn’t complete, and the left nav doesn’t auto expand).
It would also be nice if the tab for the section you’re in would stay “active” for better orientation to where a user is in the site.
I haven’t played with the admin area yet, and will let you know if I see anything once I do!
Love the theme though! This is going to be a nice foundation for one of my new projects.

This is a theme that initially underwhelmed me when I saw the screen shots but now that I see the demo, I’m happy to say I am pleasantly surprised. The Station is yet another wootheme that I think will be quite useful. Good job !

Thanks for the kind words so far everyone!
@Rory – No, it isn’t supposed to be like that. Which browser are you using?
@Parker – Breadcrumb seems fine on sub-sub page, but I see that a little bug has crept in with regards to the secondary navigation (it is intended to expand for active parents). Also – the tabs do stay highlighted!?
@Toonces – Underpromise and overdeliver!
That’s what we’re all about!

I know this theme was just released, but two things: 1)I’m assuming you’re working on a documentation/how-to to explain the different areas like all the other themes have?
and 2) is there an xml file available to download with filler text for those of us who are setting this theme up for a client, but don’t have content yet?
Other than those two things, I already can tell that my client will enjoy this theme!
26 March 2009 at 3:13 pm #
@Tatiana – Sorry, yes… The documentation has been activated (I forgot to do so earlier). And if you drop us an e-mail, we can give you the XML file from the WP export.
26 March 2009 at 4:46 pm #
@Adii – I see you sorted it out. Anyway, for interest sake I am using Safari and Firefox on the Mac.
26 March 2009 at 6:25 pm #
FYI – The tabs don’t stay highlighted on sub-pages (Safari 4).
27 March 2009 at 12:34 am #
The “Blog” tab is not highlighted in the demo when viewed with Firefox…

Aaargh… Barely a month after my 6 months Woo subscription ends this come out! I thought Cushy was the theme I needed for my business, but seeing this one has changed all that – could you please stop making themes which get better and better! I am starting to develop an addiction…
Seriously though – great job – this is an awesome business theme.

Great theme. I created a site called http://confickerinfo.com to warn about the 2009 April Fools day trojan. The theme is fantastic. I can’t wait to see what you guys have in store for the rest of the year. Great job, keep it up.

Hi Adii
Nice theme like it alot. Just had a quick browse, what I could see the image in the blogs are still pointing at localhost and I tested the comment system out it left a comment but didnt seem to count the post in the post count.
Thats all ive found so far using IE7
28 March 2009 at 2:56 pm #
i guess your themes are not for IE…
I tested your new one groovy–doesn’t work in IE.

Good Working! It’s a completely different style wordpress theme!
30 March 2009 at 6:27 pm #
After looking at your demo and noticing the javascript used, are you aware that wordpress plugins for lightbox will not work? Shaddowbox JS and Lightbox 2, two of the easiest and most used plguins that provid “auto-lightboxing” will not work. In fact, I am not sure any lightbox will work.
Before I purchase this, can you please inform me how to use a lightbox plugin? That is critical for me. Thank you.

Is there a response that I may be able to get in regards to me question above… ?
4 April 2009 at 5:28 am #
This is ridiculous, are you seriously not going to reply? I asked a very crucial question and I do expect for it to be answered. If this has been a mistake, I am sorry for my demanding tone. However, I do have deadlines and need answers promptly.
4 April 2009 at 10:53 pm #
Sheesh. Just use a different theme. They use the support forums for questions like this.
5 April 2009 at 4:25 am #
@Jeremy – please use our contact page to ask questions about functionality of our themes. Comments are for commenting and not asking questions about themes.
5 April 2009 at 10:22 pm #
I will absolutely not be using this theme or WooThemes because of a) the time it took to get a response and 2) because my questions were not answers. I am not sure what you are thinking, but answering a question like this so everyone could see the answer would have been wise.
Seems like there is no business sense at WooThemes. Perhaps invest in CRM software, too.
Adios.
6 April 2009 at 4:42 am #
@Jeremy – Thank you for your input, but we prefer to answer specific theme functionality questions via e-mail for potential customers and through our forum for our members. We do this to ensure that you are given a correct answer and that you get a swift reply.
6 April 2009 at 6:34 am #
“and 2) because my questions were not answers”
And I won’t be using Woothemes because me don’t write no good English.
P.s. I wish my questions were answers too.
7 April 2009 at 3:35 am #
I fail to realize how an answer given on this website would be any less than an answer given via email. Wouldn’t it be the same person? Ensuring that I get the correct answer shouldn’t be a problem, because you wouldn’t lie on here, right? I understand the swift reply thing, though.
If you do not wish to answer my question here where others can get the info too then it’s your loss, not mine.
@Alex White
I am terribly sorry that you were so offended that I made a typo. What an immature thing to do. Get a life.
7 April 2009 at 6:51 am #
@Jeremy – We answer per email so we can give the fastest and most accurate reply to the question asked. That is how we prefer it and we have decided that is how we want to operate.
We also state in our Terms that we can’t support every plugin out there, and we can’t test every one against our themes. We will however do what we can to find a solution to your problems in the forum.
Sorry if you don’t agree with that, but it is how we have decided to run our business.
But to answer your question: Not all lightbox plugins work with The Station, but I’ve tested Shadowbox JS and it works perfect. http://sivel.net/category/wordpress/plugins/
You can see it in action here: http://www.woothemes.com/demo/thestation/about-4/
7 April 2009 at 8:46 pm #
You, sir, are my hero. Thank you very much. I will purchase shortly.
9 April 2009 at 2:14 pm #
Adii,
Love the theme. It’s the reason we signed up for WooThemes.
Quick question…How do I widgetize the header? I’d like to stick a plugin in place of the “Subscribe to the RSS Feed” box.
20 April 2009 at 5:58 am #
Jeremy (April 5th)… I will absolutely not be using this theme or WooThemes
Jeremy (April 7th) I will purchase shortly.
Jeremy = support nightmare! LOL
