More Upcoming Theme Concepts
20. Mar, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts
If you follow our Flickr pool, you would’ve noticed that we’ve been adding quite a few new theme concepts in the last couple of days. Now along with my own The Station concepts (the theme will be available next week) and Dan Rubin’s theme concept we posted this past week, we’d like to share three more upcoming theme concepts with you…
Feature Pitch
I have been enjoying putting on my design hat of late and ever since FRESH01 & Foxinni joined the WooThemes team, I now have some amazing skills to assist me. So for Feature Pitch (which will still get a more unique logo), I came up with the concept and then had FRESH’s help to polish the design and truly turn it into a top-notch WooTheme.
The theme’s purpose is simple: to sell your products / services. This is a promotional site, influenced largely by the way Mac Applications (see Things.app and Versions.app) are being promoted and sold. Also – to serve this purpose, we have actually gone for a much narrower design and the width is only about 800px.
I feel that this theme is something unique in terms of our current business theme offerings (only Productum comes close in purpose & focus), which means we’re only trying to offer you an even bigger variety when it comes to using the right theme, to promote your business in the best possible way. Here’s some teaser images:
Metamorphosis
When we saw this latest design from Izuddin (who is responsible for the hugely popular Irresistible & Groovy Video), we immediately knew this this would be another hit if we were to release it for free.
We like the fact that this is a very unique theme in terms of not having any kind of sidebar (either on the homepage or on the inner pages), which means that the traditional sidebar elements will go into a widgetized footer, with a horizontal slider. Nothing beats a theme that’s unique and free… Or that’s what we believe!
Have a look…
Suit & Tie
I think you’ve all grown accustomed to the fact that here at WooThemes we’re not overly concerned with our ego’s and that we thus love collaborating with industry-leading designers. This time around we’ve gotten Bryan Veloso to work with us on another business theme (2009 is the year of the business theme we believe!) and we’re amazed by the results thus far.
As we’ve done with all the big name designers (Veerle Pieters, Elliot Jay Stocks, Matt Brett & Dan Rubin), we gave Bryan an open brief in terms of what we wanted and the result is an extremely clean, jQuery-infused business theme titled Suit & Tie. Again, the idea of the design is to focus on its core-competencies and to not try be everything to everyone. Also, as I mentioned about Feature Pitch above, we believe in getting a wide variety of themes into our collection, as that is where the real value is for our users. So here you go…
Bloggingstream
And then we’re finally breaking the backlog of themes from the WooContest… The design is by Daus (who also designed another free theme of ours – Typebased) and with FRESH01’s help, we’ve turned this into a truly stunning theme (imho). The theme can be used as either a traditional blogging layout or a more content-heavy magazine look (as we’ll be developing a bunch of different layout options for this).
We also decided to strip the theme of all its colour (for the default colour scheme), as this should allow our users to really customize the theme extensively. We’ve also tried to keep the emphasis on the content of the site; and not so much any pretty graphics in and around it.
So what do you think?
Journal
This is another new design-in-progress from our friend, Daus, which we only got to see this past week. Journal is a magazine-style theme with a difference, as it is completely unique compared to all of our other magazine themes to date. For me, the theme resembles a printed newspaper, which really appeals to me.
Sorry for the lower-res preview, but then again, this post is all about teasing you anyway…
Aperture
And then last but not least, I’d just like to mention Mark’s amazing new theme concept called Aperture. Since he has already blogged about it over here, I won’t say too much and I’ll let you visit his blog for some better quality mock ups.
I do however want to add that in terms of the types of themes currently available in the WP community, I believe that Aperture will be one of our most unique and niche themes to date. So we’re extremely excited about this one (along with the others we’ve posted above) and trust that you’ll continue to be excited with us…
Have your say!
After an extremely long post (I promise that it took me a whole lot longer to write, than it took for you to read it), we’d love to hear your comments on all of our recent theme concepts. Tell us which theme you like best, why you don’t like others and maybe how we can improve on some of them.
Then, we’d also like for you to have a quick vote on which theme concepts you like most… If you all vote for the same theme, it might twist our arm in terms of which to develop first…

Fresh01 did an amazing job on BloggingStream!
All these themes make my mouth water… and I don’t even need the themes we make
20 March 2009 at 5:30 am #
Metamorphosis is really interesting, putting the comments on the side like that is a good and unseal idea.
20 March 2009 at 5:32 am #
I absolutely love Feature Pitch. It does remind me a bit too much of The Invoice Machine, but it’s still a gorgeous design nonetheless. I would love to see this theme coded up!
20 March 2009 at 5:33 am #
Some great looking themes there guys, I particularly like Metamorphosis – roughly when will this be ready?
20 March 2009 at 5:38 am #
I seriously need to join the WooThemes club… ALL of those look AMAZING!!
20 March 2009 at 5:38 am #
@Micheal – Yeah, Magnus actually showed me The Invoice Machine just after I showed him my mockups the first time. I do however hope that the concept is unique enough to pass judgement!?
20 March 2009 at 5:39 am #
@James – We haven’t decided yet… And we’ll probably decide on a week-to-week basis what we should release next.
20 March 2009 at 5:47 am #
You guys have got some seriously gr8 themes under your hood. Really liked a lot the Metamorphosis theme…its amazing.. 10/10 for it. will use it as soon as its ready for a release.
20 March 2009 at 5:47 am #
I like Metamorphosis.. Its Cool, New and Unseen !
Adi, Magnus.. Gift me as soon as its released ! ^_^
20 March 2009 at 5:54 am #
Adii, the designer of Typebase is Armono, not me
20 March 2009 at 5:54 am #
I DO absolutely love APERTURE Theme… as a photographer I would love to adopt this theme for my personal photoblog!!!
20 March 2009 at 5:57 am #
I love that White and Clean Bloggingstream
20 March 2009 at 6:18 am #
I like Suit & Tie. It looks too professional!!~
20 March 2009 at 6:20 am #
Metamorphosis looks the best to me. And it’s free. Score!
20 March 2009 at 6:26 am #
I wish I could’ve voted for all of them at the same time!
20 March 2009 at 6:27 am #
Sorry – want them all!
20 March 2009 at 6:52 am #
Really liking the look of Bloggingstream, essentially it will allow everyone to add their own personal touches to it with a little bit of CSS knowledge.
Does this mean you are close to finishing all the last round of Theme Concepts from the last contest? I’m forever holding out for your work guys, it’s always exceptional.
20 March 2009 at 7:07 am #
With every theme you release you put yourself another 100 miles ahead of the competition. I really love your new concepts!!!
Keep the themes coming…
20 March 2009 at 7:14 am #
I’ve always been a fan of Bryan Veloso’s work so there’s no question in my mind about the suit & tie theme being an instant hit. He’s just got ‘it’.
The style of fever pitch is right up my alley as I’m a fan, like you guys of the minimal feel that several of the app Web sites are using nowadays.
Izuddin should just join up with Woothemes before someone else gobbles him up. His flavor of design always makes me think “this guy has his finger on the pulse”, but his designs are always unique enough to carry their own flare.
My favorite (though it probably sounds like I can’t make up my mind) is the Aperture theme as I have a client in mind at this very moment that I know would love this design. So, umm, yeah, if you can do that one first, I’d appreciate it!
kthxbai.
20 March 2009 at 7:32 am #
Very nice!
20 March 2009 at 7:45 am #
I cannot wait for suit and tie come out. I love woothemes, and so do my clients. You all make the best themes. I really want more business or CMS based themes.
20 March 2009 at 8:03 am #
I just want to echo echo Artepick’s comments – this could be molded into a great e-commerce site! I think you guys should go down the path of partnering with E-junkie to become the sole provider of Wordpress themes that utilize their technology. Whatdoyathink Mark?
20 March 2009 at 8:04 am #
Hope to see Aperture released early, as this is something missing in the Woothemes “collection”, imo. Would also be nice if you could resist the temptation to use typography for print when making the “Journal” – as each has it own use. Personally I would prefer a more modern look to go with the modern incarnation of a journal
20 March 2009 at 8:08 am #
smoking! all of them, gosh darn it!
20 March 2009 at 8:11 am #
I like them.. they seem like stylized versions of previous themes tho. Great looking nonetheless and they atleast offer more variety. I’d like to see a theme built specifically for a WP ecommerce plugin.
20 March 2009 at 8:18 am #
I love Suit and Tie. I’d buy it right now if it was available.
20 March 2009 at 8:25 am #
I am really looking forward to Metamorphosis.
20 March 2009 at 8:52 am #
Nice collection of designs, looks like you guys are really perfecting the clean slick look, nice typography as well, do you guys use 960 grid from design phase for all your themes? I’ve only just started looking into using it.
20 March 2009 at 9:06 am #
Thanks for adding more business themes. Really looking forward to Feature Pitch as well as Suit & Tie.
Keep it up!
20 March 2009 at 9:18 am #
I can’t choose. I like them all. haha
20 March 2009 at 9:22 am #
What do we want ?
Free Metamorphosis!
When do we want it?
NOW!
20 March 2009 at 9:29 am #
Aperture looks very intriguing. I am currently using Squarespace for my blog but would love a change of pace. As a photographer, I know for a fact there’s a huge market out there for photo themes.
20 March 2009 at 9:39 am #
My vote(s) go to Feature Pitch & Suit&Tie. Great work guys!
20 March 2009 at 9:52 am #
This is the type of post that should make the theme club a no-brainer for most. As for me … I am already a member and have plans for at least four of these designs from just the previews. Keep up the great work guys!
20 March 2009 at 9:58 am #
Love the journal theme!! It would be great for an interactive journalist
20 March 2009 at 9:58 am #
Bloggingstream is simple and clean… just the way I like it

The others are excellent too
Cheers.
20 March 2009 at 9:59 am #
Aperture is the one and only… maybe Journal!
20 March 2009 at 10:08 am #
Focus on the essential. Eliminate the rest. Metamorphosis does that. A clear winner!! Can you build the navigation with sub levels, please? That would be even better.
20 March 2009 at 10:13 am #
They all look great..
I can’t wait for feature pitch – can think of so many blogs that I can use that for.. wow.
And I think that Aperture will be great for photo sites and even portfolio sites..
20 March 2009 at 10:15 am #
Don’t make me pick one! All of them are gorgeous!!
20 March 2009 at 10:49 am #
Suit & Tie and Metamorphosis are to die for
20 March 2009 at 10:54 am #
All the themes have a practical use. I have 3 personal projects I am working on in which I could use Aperture, Blogging and Streaming, the Journal, and maybe Meta-Morphisis.
They all look good. Journal is probably my favorite because I like the versatility of News style sites.
20 March 2009 at 11:36 am #
Suit & Tie destroys just about everything I’ve seen so far regarding business focused themes. It’s usable loveliness. I believe 2009 really is the year of the business.
20 March 2009 at 11:38 am #
Thumbs up for blogging stream! They’re all awesome, but that one “spoke” to me.
20 March 2009 at 1:31 pm #
I like the Journal Theme the best, and I know of a place where I could use it now (hurry up, lol!) … but the Feature Pitch and Suit & Tie definitely have a lot of great applications in terms of rounding out your offerings for the business world. It’s great to see theme makers that realize that WordPress is a CMS, not just a “blogging platform”, and that really any business site can be made from it.
20 March 2009 at 1:38 pm #
On another note, I’d want something between the blogging+streaming dark and the all-white. The all-white seems too stark … but I hate the white font on dark background thing in terms of readability. So maybe something with a dark background but lightened reading boxes to be a go-between?
20 March 2009 at 1:42 pm #
@Nikole – Don’t worry… All themes will come in a variety of color styles like our previous offerings
20 March 2009 at 3:23 pm #
I like the metamorphis theme the best. A very nice look – different with the sidebar links on the bottom – but very nice.
20 March 2009 at 3:33 pm #
Honestly. I’ll sign up the second you include Blogging and Streaming in your line up. Seriously. I want that now!
20 March 2009 at 6:37 pm #
Metamorphosis and Aperture look very nice. Can’t say I like feature pitch or blogging stream at all. As someone who just purchased a club membership, I’d like to offer a couple of constructive comments..
1 – Too many of the themes look similar and not in a good way. Besides the same widths and menu locations, I note there are certain typefaces, icons, and\or elements repeated over and over. I’d really like to see you stop reusing elements and design really original themes from scratch. I think the two I mentioned above that I like really break from most of your older themes – a really good thing!
2 – I note that many of the themes are demoed while loaded up with colorful pictures, which help add splash when the backgrounds, text, etc are very monochromatic. I’d really like to see some customizations where the elements like side lines, underlines, icons, boxes, use colors that are more offset from the backgrounds. In other words, designs that would look great if used mostly with text instead of mostly with photos.
20 March 2009 at 8:26 pm #
A very solid collection.
I think suit and tie and feature pitch are both very of the moment and will prove extremely popular. I’m a big fan of magazine layouts so Journal is doing it for me – particularly that row next to the branding. It’s almost exactly like a concept I’ve got on the go in Photoshop.
Aperture looks great – I saw it a couple of days ago on Mark Forrester’s site and it definitely fills a gap in your themes.
The other two (Meta-Morphisis & Blogging and Streaming) stand out less to me but I think it’s because the others are so strong.
I’ll pick one later – will have to live with them a bit first.
20 March 2009 at 8:48 pm #
First choice? Metamorphosis, no doubt. It’s a complete diversion from the themes you already have available. Seems like it would be easy to customize and I love how the focus seems to be on content.
Got to agree with Erik about breaking from the woo mold. (You’ve got great designs for sure, but some of them do look similar.) Let’s get metamorphosis released!!!
20 March 2009 at 11:59 pm #
Thanks for all the kind words & excitement everyone!
@Erik Schmith – I just do not see what you mean… The above 6 concepts are by 5 different designers and if you include The Station & Dan Rubin’s untitled design, you get 8 concepts by 6 designers. So surely you can’t tell me that you see a similar style from each of those 6 designers!? When I look at these themes, I see a massive variety to our already diverse collection of themes.
Also remember, that some themes will carry a designer’s signature style. So Fresh News, Busy Bee, Over Easy etc from Magnus will have similar elements, but that’s exactly why we mix things up by using different designers.
21 March 2009 at 3:30 am #
THE JOURNAL theme is AMAZING. I don’t know if you’re creating it with tables. But tables are back in a major way. We need all the structure to make sense, house and contain the enormous amount of multimedia that any one individual can produce.
Absolutely awesome idea. It reminds me of the Harry Potter NEWSPAPERS in the movies. Heavily blocked, with motion photographs. If the web can merge the best of what print has to offer, it’s ON.
Come out with THE JOURNAL and I’ll buy it. Well done. Excellent thinking behind it.
21 March 2009 at 6:54 am #
I am really loving the “Suit and Tie” theme that you’ve got coming… great stuff really. Keep up the excellent work WooThemes!
Luc Arnold
21 March 2009 at 8:11 am #
Definitely love the journal theme… will it be available in differing color schemes?
Great work guys…
21 March 2009 at 9:22 am #
When can we expect Metamorphosis theme to be released? I think I want to launch my new blog with this theme, any ETA?
It’s design is so stylish, plus everybody could customize it easyliy by just changing the background image i think :O. Liking the pruple striped bg.
But i’d like to see a bigger (better readable) text font on the blog posts(like the uber readability on adii’s blog). I know you can change it yourself, but dunno if it wont fit the design then, mayeb something to think about?
Oh i think the comments next to the post are great. Specially since I want a blog to communicate and get feedback. So the communication in this theme has a great visibility.
21 March 2009 at 9:43 am #
I think Aperture will be a hit, I would love to get hold of this one and offer the design to clients or even for my own projects. I also like the theme Metamorphosis this would be a good theme to have.
I think you should release all the themes featured though
21 March 2009 at 11:13 am #
I like suite and Tie, Pitch, and Journal. When will they be available?
22 March 2009 at 2:06 pm #
Journal and Metamorphasis are my favorites and most conducive to the clients I currently service.
22 March 2009 at 10:40 pm #
Journal theme amazing.. When relaese this theme?
24 March 2009 at 7:04 pm #
Hi, I agree with eric a littlebit. I am not a clubber, but I have not purchased any themes recently as I don’t really see new things that get me excited. Thing is the designs are all very cool and quit different indeed (imho) but i do not see to much creativity in functionality / problemsolving themes. I would like a theme for ecommerce (paypal integration?), I would like a theme for an event, I would like a theme for a sportsclub or an notforprofit organisation. a free tibet theme or a save the whales theme. I would love to see you work from such kind of goals and include some new functionality to suit these more goal specific needs
I would be buying again.
Love your work, just my 10 cents
25 March 2009 at 4:53 am #
Just read Vincent’s comment ive got to agree with what he has said
25 March 2009 at 6:25 am #
What I love is that each design is about fitting a purpose. Which is best is about what you’re after I guess. If I had to choose, then i’d go for the Journal, which is a real leap forward.
26 March 2009 at 2:39 am #
JURNAL all the way!
26 March 2009 at 5:24 am #
Hello,
When will be released the Suit & Tie theme?
Thank you.
26 March 2009 at 2:50 pm #
To everyone that have asked when these themes will be released: we don’t know…
26 March 2009 at 9:32 pm #
LOL So helpful Adii. Do you have a rough idea of the order in which they’re going to be released, and for those of us who have a 3 month membership, is it safe to assume that most of these themes will be released within the next couple of months? As much as I would love to, I don’t have the money to indulge in a longer membership…
27 March 2009 at 4:04 pm #
Nice theme! Thumbs up.
31 March 2009 at 12:24 am #
I really like the Journal! Nice design, nice flow. Keen to see that bad boy all done and dusted.
31 March 2009 at 9:24 am #
Metamorphosis looks great, though as other people have said, some of the themes seem to dislike IE 7 (but work great with IE 8).
4 April 2009 at 9:22 pm #
When will be released the journal? if over monts , I would buy another.
somebody please answr
5 April 2009 at 4:28 am #
@eren – please note that we don’t have any release plan for these themes, but we do plan on releasing 2-4 themes every month.
5 April 2009 at 7:31 am #
Awesome stuff. The day you release Aperture is the day I join. I’m looking forward to it.
14 April 2009 at 6:47 pm #
Keep the Business themes coming!! Can’t wait for Suit & Tie!
16 April 2009 at 12:24 am #
Thank you for all the useful information, just subscribed!
17 April 2009 at 2:16 pm #
I’d really like to see more CMS type themes from WOO, like Suit & Tie. Woo currently has a ton of Blogging type theme offerings and only a few CMS type themes to choose from.
Just my two cents worth…
18 April 2009 at 4:45 am #
@David – We released two CMS themes in March, and have more lined up
21 April 2009 at 11:05 pm #
I have had a developer’s license for close to 9 months or so now (i think lol) .. and i will say that the designs have been great for me… clients love them and I am getting much faster at customizing… which is a plus.
I would agree with a few of the comments that there is a (personal) need for more business style themes with a focus on products/service features, as opposed to highly graphic focused. Suit and tie looks awesome.
However, the fact that you get all the variety is one of the big reasons I have stayed on… what some people should be doing and probably are not…. is mixing and matching chunks of multiple themes together to get the balance you want.
If you take a few hours to read and learn about the customization features you can actually do quite a bit with the developer’s license… and get the best of both worlds (business & graphics).
One area I am getting a lot of requests for from clients is in the lifestyle arena. Healthy living/eating , personal training, going green programs, green products, water conservation, etc). So… suit and tie style… sky blues, light greens..tans …more soft colours with a business feel. Alot of one person shops / consultants / trainers / professionals.. that kind of thing.
Anyway.. love the site … love the themes. Just want to share some of my experiences using the themes and what i’ve been asked for.
PS: SUIT AND TIE
25 April 2009 at 11:05 pm #
wow! Very nicely done…It looks exactly like I would expect a news website to look, so good job with the implementation!
26 April 2009 at 11:09 pm #
Woothemes are flat out a dream to have for our start ups. I am checking here everyday hoping for the release of “Feature Pitch”. I can only hope that they release the design of their new website in a theme. That would be our next site two days later!
7 May 2009 at 4:57 pm #
When are you guys coming out with the Journal Theme? I love it.
8 May 2009 at 9:47 am #
I extended my membership just for the Journal theme, hope it will come in anytime by now!
11 May 2009 at 3:59 pm #
Journal, Journal, Journal, can’t wait!!
18 May 2009 at 1:33 pm #
When is the journal theme release date?
26 May 2009 at 11:38 am #
journal!!! can’t wait
2 June 2009 at 10:34 am #
Sh**! Your themes are awesome!
