New Theme Concept by Dan Rubin

19. Mar, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts

As I designer, it is always a privilege collaborating with designers that you admire.  For me, one such a designer is Dan Rubin, whom I started following way back in my early days of exploring the interwebs along with my own design abilities. You just need to have a look at the list of books that Dan has authored (or co-authored) on CSS, web standards & design; to get an idea of how well-known Dan is…

A while back we got him to do a collaboration with us on a new theme and we’re no nearing the end of the design process (Dan has already started coding it). The concept is a personal profile space and includes sections to publish your portfolio, along with your other online activities. We’ll also be using Cufon (first time for us) for the custom fonts, which will add a nice typographic style to the theme.

So here’s a bit of a teaser… The theme (which is yet to get a name) will probably be available in the next 2 / 3 months… But we’re open for persuasion on developing this earlier… :)

Fantastic new project, Adii! I’d definitely get this baby for my music portfolio, especially if you guys can incorporate some cool stuff that will be exciting for us musicians out there.

Looks great! I was disappointed that Irresistable was not released as a flagship Woo theme – maybe this one could incorporate a fully widgetised page, with module options, and yes more for musical types like a player, giglist etc.?

I like the overall layout but my gosh it’s cluttered with identical level of information. I do not know where to look. It’s way too busy.

Absolutely horrible in my opinion and i agree with Sylvain way too busy, if this is the standard WooThemes thinks is excellent we have a problem. I have seen better thought out and approached Free Themes that have been executed recently, this is embarrassing and damaging to WooThemes and Dan’s overall reputation if it’s released as a paid theme. just my opinion sorry guys?

I’ve been looking for something like this, and would love to see this one released. I’m assuming a lot of the “clutter” is widgetised and you could remove it if needs be, but I like it as is. Personally, I’m hoping the Lifestream widget could be catered for, as most themes make it look awful.

Very unique and special. That was exactly what i mean in previous comments of mine that each them must have its own distinctive characteristics. You release that i will buy it. Good work.

@Lyn & @Bigsky – Yes, we will widgetize the homepage in a similar way to Geometric; so you will be able to implement only the sections that you want to implement.

@Stuart – Sheesh, you seem to back your personal preference quite a bit there!? 2 / 19 comments (yours included) suggests that they don’t like the theme, which means that the majority absolutely loves the theme. We’re definitely not in the business of releasing themes that will make everyone happy every single time (because that’d be impossible).

We ARE however trying to release a big variety of different themes, because that is where the value for our club members are: in the variety. This theme also isn’t representative of our design decisions, is it? Have you seen the styles of our other upcoming themes? Very different to this one… So nothing in terms of our quality has dropped…

I’ve always been a fan of Woo Themes, but I’m ready to join and buy Dan Rubin’s theme as soon as it’s ready! I hope I don’t have to wait to months for it. I have a site I’m ready to start using it on today!

Wow, I really like the textured one … that’s a great color scheme. It really has that nice well-used leather-bound journal feel to it.

If you are open to persuasion, I think it is the best blog design concept I’ve seen and I would like to use be using it now. If not today, how about a May release date? And thanks for including the community in the conversation.

Swwwweeet! Love everything about it. Dan is such a great designer! I love the easy-access to all the pertinent personal info. This theme really has everything for a personal site.

Hope to see it available sooner than later!
