Hello World! – A New WooThemes Blog

05. Jun, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Interactive

So I need to call in some help on this one… We’ve been frantically busy building WOO2 in the past couple of weeks and one of the new things that you’ll see on the new site, is that we’ll be splitting our current blog into two niche purposes.

So this existing blog, will continue to function as our main blog, but will essentially turn into communication with existing & prospective users (which it basically is now). This means that we’ll feature company-related news here, as well as use it for marketing and some kind of development / updates type blog.

Then, the new blog (which is where I’ll need a bit of your help) will be running of a sub-domain of WooThemes.com and whilst it will contain WooThemes branding (very similar to the new WOO2 website), it will have a totally different purpose. This blog will be a content blog, where we’ll cover a variety of different topics of interest to people that would use our themes. So if I had to define the scope of this blog, I’d include the following topics:

  • Design & Developement tips / tricks
  • CMS-specific news & tips (WordPress, Drupal, Magento, EE)
  • Better blogging
  • Running an online startup
  • Social Media / Marketing

So what do I need help with? We’re looking for a name for this new blog and would love to hear what you think… Also consider that as it would be running of a sub-domain of WooThemes.com, the name of the blog needs to be relevant. Lastly – the blog is not only focussed on WordPress anymore (as WooThemes is expanding to different CMS’s) and the blog’s name needs to reflect that.

And as always… We’ll throw in a free copy to any of our themes for the best suggestion! :)

    “woo elements”

Think periodic table. Each platform could be branded with their own element symbol, weight, etc; or you could divide into four categories that vaguely represent earth, wind, water, fire. (if you need a fifth or all-encompassing, think space)

The same concept could be applied to “Woo Magic”

I generally like to work in concepts when branding… then get to the details.

Of course, you could always go with something simple like “woo media” :)

how about metabits or metablog since you will be esentially thinking and blogging about how to blog. hence the meta (self referential). Alternatively postlaunch since this will be talking about all the details needed after launch.

Since it will be about lot of topics + WordPress, Drupal, Magento, EE, so how about “Omni Blog” or “Omni Woo”?

    Alchemy

The power or process of turning something ordinary into something very special – originally a philosophical practice aimed at turning base metals into gold. Woothemes turns base CMS modules into extraordinary web themes.

Enk. – “WooHoo” made me laugh. Let’s toss that in the name hat. It’s kind of dual purpose … as in excitement (“woohoo!!”) and as in getting someone’s attention (a play on “yoooo hoo!”).

I quite like the idea of making it seem personal, something like
    “woo me”
    -or-
    “be wooed”

Or you could go down the branded, rhyming route, like
    “woovy” (to sound like groovy)
    “woovers & shakers”
“woo two” (indicates it’s the second blog, invokes idea of partnership with the reader)
