Introducing the Showdown

30. Jun, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Interactive

Welcome to the madness. So this our attempt at spicing things up here a little by featuring a showdown between the absolute best of the best in a bit of a blood, sweat and tears affair

showdown

Ever since we first started WooThemes, all of you have shown us that you love modifying our themes, ripping them apart and creating incredibly beautiful websites. You just need to spend a few minutes on our showcase to understand what we mean.

So what’s the showdown then? Basically we’ll select two of these incredible user-modified versions of our themes every week and then have them square off against each other for the title of Showdown Champion. We’ll select the contestants based on submissions on our showcase and we’ll always select two contestants who used the same theme as the basis.

How will you select the champion? In every week’s showdown, we’ll profile the designer / developer responsible for the modifications and then write a little review to explain why we think their modified version is great. BUT thereafter it will be up to you guys & girls to decide which of the contestants will be walking away as the champion. We’ll include a voting poll on each post and you’ll have 3 days to cast your vote.

What can you win? We’ll give each week’s winner a $50 voucher to spend with WooThemes (on either a subscription or an individual theme package), as well as a brand-new WooThemes t-shirt, which we’ll start selling soon.

So sure, this is all about winning yourself some Woo-(street)-cred, whilst having some fun at the same time. We look forward to feature our first two contestants next week and hope that you’re just as excited about this as we are.

Battle stations ready!

The first battle should be http://dellustrations.com/blog/ vs. http://www.misternifty.com! Make it a three-way battle with http://www.pleasecritiqueme.com. Let’s rumble!

Very cool idea! I think this should be interesting, and will for sure bring in some new, tricked-out creations.

Also, I think I have one or two in the showcase ;)

haha.. and what do u mean by every week thingy ? Its not a complete week till 4th of July. And are you taking submissions after 4th July ?

Yep, submissions are open without any time-limit. So as new users create new modifications, they can simply add it to the Showcase and we’ll pick the best-of-the-best from there.

how fun! so to make things a bit more clear.. will there be an announcement of which 2 themes are chosen at a given time to submit? or should we all submit the mods of ANY theme by the 6th???

You can submit any mods for any themes throughout the whole Showdown. There’s no limit here. We’ll probably be picking 2 designs to feature (randomly) – from the best of what’s on the showcase at that time – about 2 weeks in advance.

Will you be bringing back the voting on all themes in the showcase? Always fun to see the top 15. Also, submitted some a while back that aren’t showing yet – should they be resubmitted?

    Thanks for the contest idea.

Yeah, we are planning to bring voting / rating back on the showcase. I thought it was fun as well! :)

And no need to re-submit older modifications. We’ve got a massive backlog of sites that need to be added to the showcase and we are now adding new stuff on a weekly basis.

Cool idea. I did a bit of customization to my blog using the Fresh News theme. I’m working on one now that will be very customized. See my personal site at

http://www.JohnDennisInc.com <- Fresh News theme, customized a bit.

Adii, I love watching you on tv, I love the great convo we have over at your blog, I think all the ideas you guys come up with to help bring some great community to woo is awesome, I just wish you guys would focus on your themes again. The latest batch of themes are lacking in my opinion and I believe the above mentioned are some reasons why. I realize from a business stand point all these things that your doing is probably making you a killing finacially though, it is also effecting the quality of new releases. Please don’t see this as me trying to stir up shit, rather me giving you my honest thoughts on the woo of today versus the woo of the past.

i’m soon launching a website using the groovyvideo theme. it’s a great theme btw, really glad i found it. it’s not a heavily modififed theme (since it’s already a great theme), but a lot of custom stuff are being written for this site. anyway, i dont know if it will qualify for your showdown. best of luck to everyone and thank you woothemes for building awesome themes!
