About the Showcase
25. Jul, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Interactive
So we’ve been making quite a bit of noise recently about our Showcase and you may have been wondering why we think this is so important in relation to our other activities. We hope that after reading this little post about our goals & aims with the Showcase, you’ll come to appreciate the awesomeness it possesses a little more…
Here are some of the reasons for us punting the Showcase so fiercely of late…
1. It’s about recognizing your hard work. So first and foremost, we believe that the Showcase is there to recognize the amazing work that all of you are doing based on our default themes. This is important to us, because your work is really amazing and if we can just send a little traffic your way, we’d be very happy.
2. It’s about a community. No community is complete without a little bit of a profile & ranking system. The Showcase is thus a little bit of an ego-stroke for those that get featured and we think it spreads some of those warm fuzzies in having your modified WooTheme featured in the Showcase. Recent initiatives like the Showdown (which is in it’s 3rd week already) just further adds a little bit of interactivity to the Showcase and for that very reason (I think), the Showdown has proved to be extremely popular.
3. It’s about showing you what’s possible. I don’t think that we could conceptualize any kind of marketing campaign that would beat the value of the Showcase. Fact is, the Showcase speaks for itself in terms of the ease-of-use and customizability of our themes.
4. Â It’s about inspiration. Do yourself a favour next time before you consider buying a WooTheme, check the Showcase and become inspired about using one of our themes for your website. Didn’t think it was possible to create a website with XYZ using our themes? Check the Showcase and think again.
5. It’s not only about design. We try feature as many modified WooThemes as possible, but it’s obviously not possible to feature all of them. We however don’t *only* feature the modifications that look great, because not every WooThemes user is an uber-designer by trade. So instead we feature modifications that are achieving the goals / aims of the business / organization / project.
So hopefully this will explain to you why we’re so proud of the Showcase. If you don’t visit it often, we highly recommend you do so… We’re probably adding around 10 – 15 new modifications to the Showcase on the weekly basis, so you can expect a regular flux of amazing, new content.

First off, WooThemes’ themes are awesome to begin with but some of these designers are taking things to a “whole nutha level”… as Eugene Struthers would say. I think the Showcase is a great idea.

I think WooThemes’ members will like the showcase.

I think it’s also a good way for designers to quickly see what tricky elements are compatible with a theme.
For example, to see if more complex things are possible with the jquery sliders without too much confliction with other scripts in the theme; if you can see on the showcase a bunch of people doing this, you know it should be possible relatively easy. That saves me time quoting on designs, so I don’t have to ‘guess’ what is possible within a certain timeframe/budget.
Ps. I actually miss the ‘ratings’ on the old Showcase. I find the old sites get buried so it was cool to have the Top 10 on the sidebar so you could quickly scroll through the coolest looking ones …

The ratings will make a comeback soon…
We had to (unfortunately) remove them a while back, because the plugin was causing issues on the site and since then, we just haven’t made it a priority to get them back. You are however not the first one to mention it and we’ll make some work to re-implement it ASAP.

I will second that. Please bring back the ratings!!

I love my Geometric Theme. WooThemes Rock!

We’d love to see how you used Geometric…
Especially, since the Showcase is definitely not spilling over from awesome modifications for Geometric.

I’ve really enjoyed looking at the showcase. Not only for the awesome designs, but I was able to see what possibilities I was overlooking in a Theme. Case in point: I really liked Busy Bee, but thought it was a bit too modern for my project. Seeing the wonderful customizations though showed me how incredibly versatile the Theme is. Well, I guess I could say the same for all the themes. Fresh News and Gazette also had some customizations that completely changed the tone of the theme.
And as others mentioned, I was able to study different layouts / page elements to see what might be possible with that theme. Looking forward to trying them out.

I wish I had seen the showcase before I bought my theme. I would’ve felt more confident and would have had a better understanding of how themes work and what you can do with them. Instead, I just got lucky…
Can I suggest my site to be in the showcase?
