We show you teasers (Part 2)
22. Jul, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts
A while back we posted the first part to this post, where we kinda just got you curious about the themes that we were planning to release soon. Since then we’ve worked on quite a few other things, but these designs have now been finalized (and some of them have even gone into development). So now is the time to actually show you what why we believe that some of our upcoming themes will blow your mind.
Note… Whilst these themes’ designs have been finalized and some of them has been coded, there’s no clear ETA on any of their release dates. So it’s not gonna help if you ask us in the comments. All of these themes will however be pushed out in the next 3 months; so even though we’re being vague, you won’t have to wait too long…
Antisocial by Tim van Damme
Antisocial is a hybrid of Tim’s personal “business card website” and a bit of a blog. We’re extremely happy with how this design panned out and we believe this is quite a unique concept in terms of WP themes and what’s available at the moment.
We almost get a kind of “desktop” feel when looking at the design, as there is a kind of “dock” on the left-hand side of the page. That dock will be used to link out to all of your social network profiles, whilst the rest of the design (on the right) mainly takes on the functionality of a traditional blog. The homepage also thus serves as some kind of aggregation space for your activities online and the only element missing from these mockups is a link to a Lifestream page, where you’ll be able to stream all of your activities on those social networks. Anything we’ve missed with Antisocial?
Backstage by Elliot Jay Stocks
Another first for us is Backstage, which is being aimed at bands / musicians / artists. We’ve got some amazing functionality planned for this one and this along with Antisocial will be two of the most unique themes we release in 2009.
There’s however still quite a few question marks (for us) in terms of some of the functionality that we have planned with Elliot. We haven’t decided how we’re gonna handle the music files yet for example or where the “Download Free Tracks” section will pull it’s content from. We are however incredibly excited to get our hands dirty in making Backstage one of the most unique themes of our collection and also the WordPress theming community as a whole.
Exposure by FRESH01
Exposure has been based on the success of Aperture and the e-mails we get requesting more photoblogging themes. Again, we’re planning some awesome functionality in terms of widgetizing the whole theme and making it SUPER-customizable!
The idea with the widgets is, to include so many options that it’s gonna come out your ears…
Options like displaying posts from a specific tag / category, including a slider for an image section and of course, you’ll be able to use the widget more than once. So in actual fact, there’s just going to be one Master Widget, which will allow you to build your own Exposure. This is most surely ambitious, but we’re sure that we can pull it off (read: Foxinni has got his work cut out for him)!
On another note… We’ve decided to not include a separate written blog in the theme, as we felt that the audience that this theme is aimed at, will be talking via their photos. Obviously every photo can include some text / multimedia content, but the theme won’t have two sections in terms of photos & blog. Thoughts?
SophisticatedFolio by Tony Geer
We love our portfolio + blog combo themes (maybe because we’re all designers at heart), and SophisticatedFolio will be the latest design to join our portfolio themes collection. It’s definitely different to the designs we did before and we’re sure that homepage will wow anyone!
We like the fact that the theme is totally different to our other portfolio themes and the homepage design (especially the featured area) is also a new look in terms of what our existing theme collection offers… Another change-around, is the sidebar that’s actually on the left. So whilst SophisticatedFolio may not be groundbreaking, we believe this is an awesome alternative for our existing portfolio themes.
All that’s left is for you to tell us how awesome these concepts are and how excited you are to see them released in the near future… Go on… We know you love them…
More seriously… We’d love to get your constructive feedback on the concepts and if you have any suggestions on the kind of functionality that we should (try) include, we’d love to hear them. Fact of the matter is, the designs are awesome, but if the themes that fit your needs, we’re not doing our job. So tell us what kind of functionality you need from these theme concepts and we’ll do our best to include it!

elliotjaystocks never fail me!

22 July 2009 at 10:13 am #
Hehe… Why do you think we badly wanted to work with Elliot again? He’s a superb design and an awesome guy in general. And as always, Backstage is just simply fantastic!
27 July 2009 at 5:47 am #
yup. i’m really sure he is good!
22 July 2009 at 9:57 am #
Loving the new designs, they all look great.
I already have 2 projects that SophisticatedFolio by Tony Geer and Backstage by Elliot Jay Stocks will be ideal for.
Good work guys!
22 July 2009 at 10:12 am #
So you a club member yet?
22 July 2009 at 10:11 am #
Nice work Tim, Elliot and Cobus!
22 July 2009 at 10:14 am #
General consensus tells me that you’re all gushing to see these 4 babies released ASAP huh?
But if you don’t vote here, I’ll delay their development… http://woourl.com/showdown3
22 July 2009 at 10:36 am #
I voted, I voted! Don’t make us sweat like that, Adii!
22 July 2009 at 10:42 am #
I really like the antisocial theme, can’t wait to see it in action !

22 July 2009 at 10:44 am #
woo-hooo, this is getting a hot hot summer! they all look amazing, very nic work. elliot´s design is my fave
22 July 2009 at 11:03 am #
Antisocial is just…. How to say… AWESOME !!!
22 July 2009 at 12:04 pm #
As a suggestion for Antisocial, I would like to see an option to include your own icon images that link to other blogs/sites one might have.
22 July 2009 at 12:25 pm #
That’s a good idea and we’ll definitely try implement something in this regard. Dunno if it’s do-able in an out-of-box way, but we’ll figure something out!
22 July 2009 at 12:05 pm #
Antisocial is awesome! Love that one. Except one thing – not too crazy about the box “tag” thingies around the words in the tag cloud. Everything else is simply spectacular.
22 July 2009 at 12:22 pm #
I guess it would be easy for us to simply include a default tags widget, since the whole homepage should be widgetized anyway!
22 July 2009 at 12:10 pm #
Wow love “Backstage” theme. Please tell us when are u going to release them all?
Thx
22 July 2009 at 12:21 pm #
You missed the little notice at the very top of the post, right?
The order in which we’ll release these themes haven’t been confirmed, but all 4 should be released by the end of September.
22 July 2009 at 12:23 pm #
Thx I was so excited about the themes that haven’t seen the lil’ notice..;)
22 July 2009 at 12:18 pm #
ANTISOCIAL looks great. Breaks out of the mold of WP themes.
Can’t wait for it to go live.
22 July 2009 at 12:57 pm #
Backstage looks awesome! I can see myself making lost of money with the local music scene here in LA. I will definitely buy the Developer Package once released.
22 July 2009 at 1:19 pm #
That’s what we want to hear!
When people are making money from our themes, it means we’re doing something right.
22 July 2009 at 1:05 pm #
Exposure – YES!
I will replace my Aperture theme with this for sure. I think you are right, a secondary blog section is not required for this theme.
Release it first please!
22 July 2009 at 1:20 pm #
Why would you make the switch from Aperture to Exposure?
22 July 2009 at 10:30 pm #
Bigger Pictures, layout is a bit cleaner. Of course, I’d need to see the single post page. Exposure looks far more like a traditional photoblog which I really like. I’ve been looking for this for a while!
23 July 2009 at 12:43 am #
Fair enough. And that is almost the exact same thinking we had with regards to Exposure. It will most definitely be much closer to a traditional photoblog theme and the focus will be 100% on the photos, instead of the stuff around it.
22 July 2009 at 2:25 pm #
Anti-social and then Sophisticatedfolio, but they are a very close call, regardless.
22 July 2009 at 3:05 pm #
antisocial too. it’s something different then I have already seen.
22 July 2009 at 3:08 pm #
Really like Sophisticatedfolio. Antisocial is nice too for logical / informational applications.
22 July 2009 at 5:39 pm #
Damn, Antisocial must be one of the most unique and best looking themes I’ve come across.
Can’t wait!
22 July 2009 at 6:32 pm #
Exposure has my vote!
22 July 2009 at 7:50 pm #
Buying all 3 of these upon release! Keep up with the greatness!
22 July 2009 at 9:10 pm #
Very keen on exposure, but I’m still would like a blogging page.
Backstage also has my vote!
22 July 2009 at 10:39 pm #
I can’t wait for Exposure, but they all looks amazing. Glad I’m a member.
23 July 2009 at 2:48 am #
can’t wait to see all this in live demo
23 July 2009 at 4:41 am #
I love the styling on Sophisticated Folio. I still haven’t found that “perfect” theme that does everything I want it to, so I’ll be interested in how this one looks when it’s done.
23 July 2009 at 4:42 am #
Antisocial RAWKS!
23 July 2009 at 5:05 am #
Oh dear. I might have to get a developers license now.
These new themes are so beautiful!
23 July 2009 at 5:12 am #
i really really love Antisocial.
When that is available, i’m buying!
23 July 2009 at 7:38 am #
Phwoar! SophisticatedFolio looks uber tasty
Looking forward to these for sure!
23 July 2009 at 7:40 am #
Exposure is exactly what I need for a client’s art gallery! When will it be available?
Personally, I love antisocial too!
Great work!
23 July 2009 at 8:21 am #
It’s been tentatively scheduled for release in September, but don’t hold us to that…
23 July 2009 at 7:43 am #
Yup, agreed with most of you here, Antisocial is the one we want it right now!!!
23 July 2009 at 7:56 am #
Anti-Social, very nice. It’s a step in a different direction for you guys. Variety is always a good thing! And Exposure, also a win. Clean layout, large images. Great!
I’m not as impressed with Backstage. I’m convinced that you will put all sorts of functionality in there (I like that minimalistic player at the top of the page), but musician/artist websites require a bit of focus toward aesthetics and non-traditional layouts. The layout for backstage, as it appears in the screens, is much too… generic? There is nothing about it that stands out, it’s all very matter-of-fact, in that it’s presenting a lot of information without any flair.
23 July 2009 at 8:19 am #
If you have a look at our Top 5 best-selling themes of all-time (Fresh News, Busy Bee, Gazette, VibrantCMS & Over Easy), you’ll note none of their are overly graphical or unique in layout. That’s the kind of themes that our users are buying, because it allows them to make stunning modifications of those themes. Backstage is in that same groove for me…
23 July 2009 at 10:41 pm #
It’s almost 5am and i should really be asleep but OMGGGGGG! I want these themes right now! I dont think i’ll sleep until i get it!
Absolutely the most greatest themes ever! Well done woothemes.
I’m really looking forward to magento themes, are there any themes in the works?

I LOVE the antisocial theme, great work!
Swastik
26 July 2009 at 3:19 am #
AntiSocial is my favorite of the lot. I’d be interested in seeing it released first as it’s not only unique in design, it’s simple amazing. Definitely worth a purchase and I can’t wait to see it available!
26 July 2009 at 6:01 am #
Antisocial. Christmas can’t wait for this one.
26 July 2009 at 11:59 am #
The cool thing is, that you won’t need to wait until Christmas for this baby either!
26 July 2009 at 10:06 am #
wow exposure and antisocial stick out right now to me. but these are all top notch.
I want something really nice for a photoblog and exposure would be it. thats the one! boomskakalaka
26 July 2009 at 10:08 am #
Love the antisocial theme, I wonder how quickly this will spawn hundreds of clones like Tim’s other site did.
26 July 2009 at 11:56 am #
We wouldn’t mind if we could (with Tim’s help of course) inspire another design trend…
27 July 2009 at 3:00 pm #
I think SophisticatedFolio is beautiful. I’m definitely curious about AntiSocial, of course, but SophisticatedFolio looks to be incredibly practical for my clients.
So glad to be a Club member!
1 August 2009 at 6:58 pm #
hoping you are good to us in early august with the release of exposure
2 August 2009 at 8:05 am #
These are gorgeous and look very well-thought out.
From a personal point of view one problem I have with so many of the photo blog themes is that they interfere with the integrity of the ratio of a photograph. The photo’s in the examples work fine cropped, but some art does not. I’m not completely sure what to suggest on this as I can see that the elongated horizontal or the square format works better in layout, but one thing I do really like about Aperture is the integrity of the photograph. Maybe Exposure could have choices about how the photographs display?
Another purely personal observation is that most photo blogs are very masculine and modern. How ’bout a “pretty” blog for photography. No, I don’t mean scattered with pink flowers and script fonts, but something a little more classic and quiet.
If you check my website (in progress), this is what I mean by a “pretty” photo blog. It’s a free theme I’ve been trying out – but doesn’t offer the same level of awesomeness as far as functions that Woo themes offer, so I’ll probably end up customizing one of the above. Actually, this example is maybe too static and classic, but I like it’s quietness with a hint of femininity. A photo-blog with a choice of a serif header and captions for example instead of bold sans serif. (OK, again, I guess I’ll just have to customize – but, one can dream…) I’d love to see you guys take on the challenge as an option maybe?
4 August 2009 at 7:29 am #
great comment leslie. maybe they will integrate a theme option for that as they do with grunge sometimes. I agree with the integrity of the photo.
I hope that Exposure will work will with landscape and portrait orientation. That was a problem I found with other photoblog themes. I could not post a portrait orientated photo because it would be totally off. The entire blog fell apart.
4 August 2009 at 7:52 am #
Thanks, Scott. I just installed Fresh News as my new Blog. I’m still playing around, but it seems like if you change your image parameters to be same size each dimension, it will accommodate portrait and landscape better. eg. 590 x 590. I haven’t worked it all out yet.
BTW, as I’ve changed my Theme, you’ll no longer see the former “pretty” blog I had up, so here are some examples I love:
http://simonemaranzana.com/blog/
http://badassideas.com/
Hey, Woo team, how ’bout a pretty Theme for us gals?
5 August 2009 at 2:40 am #
Breaking news this… We’ve confirmed colabs with two amazing female designers who will be designing two themes especially for the girls, which will be available in October. We’re also planning on using these themes in an attempt to raise further awareness about breast cancer, since October is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
So hold tight; they’re coming!
5 August 2009 at 2:41 am #
Exposure will be the most flexible photoblogging theme EVER released! You just have no idea how awesome this will be!
8 August 2009 at 8:40 am #
Man my photoblogs feel like they are in limbo right now until exposure comes out. I plan to launch another photoblog upon release of exposure. Hope it’s first of these themes!!!
10 August 2009 at 1:46 am #
We’re working on Exposure until the end of the month and we *hope* to have it ready by the latest the first week of September.
6 August 2009 at 9:22 am #
Planning to buy Antisocial and Exposure when they are released . . . can’t wait! Well done!
10 August 2009 at 1:57 am #
Any Idea when anti-social will hit the download section?
10 August 2009 at 2:14 am #
Early to mid-September we hope!

Adii and Woo-buddies,
I can’t really put into words how lucky I feel when our band gets a proper site up with the upcoming “Backstage” theme by the CSS-Master-Blaster Elliot Jay Stocks. The theme looks really accessible and clean yet customizable.
The accessibility is essential for the band, since the site is built for the fans and listeners, not just for the band members. This is exactly what Trent Reznor gave as an advice few weeks ago for starting bands; have a clean and uncluttered site where the user can find the music easily.
Another frustating this is that how many WordPress themes there has been for sale for bands? Three? This theme is more than warm welcome for the future (or present) rockstars.
Basically, with this theme, you could the change the background image, logo and the section titles with suitable font and boom – you have a customized, unique site for the band with the most flexible CMS on the planet. Not bad. Not bad at all.
I’ve been with you Adii since the beginning and it’s great to see that you can make my day still – just like in the good ol’ days few years back, when you were building themes on your own.
I’d like ask when this thing will be out, but it probably won’t be first on the line, when there’s other great themes ahead for the masses like Antisocial and Exposure.
So, excuse me for my rambling and thank you for making beautiful things possible. Good work.
11 August 2009 at 3:32 am #
We’re pretty excited about Backstage’s release as well, since we know that it is quite unique in terms of what is on offer now. That is also the main reason that we’re holding it back a little, in our attempt to truly make the functionality as great as the design!
And thanks for sticking with us for so long now!
11 August 2009 at 9:39 am #
Antisocial
Looks Really Awesome
13 August 2009 at 2:53 am #
I’m definitely considering using AntiSocial.
I’m just wondering how flexible it will be to customize. Will you still have several style options with this one like all the others?
The home page layout is just all widgets, right?
The only crappy thing about using AntiSocial – I know there will be a million others using it as well. lol
Looking forward to seeing all 4 though.
Cheers
Jay
13 August 2009 at 4:59 am #
Yep, the theme will definitely include alternative styles (or at least colour palettes) and the homepage will be completely widgetized.
13 August 2009 at 11:10 am #
Antisocial looks pretty awesome. I can’t wait to try it out. Keep up the good work, chaps.
24 August 2009 at 8:34 am #
Really love the ones from Tim and Elliot… Really good themes, great creativity, and as usual, great designs !!
Adii, the idea to ask great designers to work for you was brilliant !!
2 September 2009 at 1:50 pm #
I need some sophisticated folio, stat!
15 September 2009 at 4:15 am #
SophisticatedFolio looks very nice
