Get out & meet real people

Get out & meet real people

Personally this is one of my most anticipated releases on WooThemes ever (I get overly excited at times, okay?) and judging by the feedback you gave us on the teasers before, you’ve been looking forward to this release as well. But let’s get back to the beginning…

Antisocial was designed by Tim van Damme and it was based on his very popular personal “business card” design (or at least in principle). The ideas behind Antisocial is to create more of an aggregation space for personal users / bloggers to create an overview of their online activities and this should already be evident on the homepage, which looks more like a social profile, instead of a traditional blog.

For the first time ever, we’ve also implemented a little bit of something the geeks like to call Microformats. Essentially all this means is that there’s a little hCard in the sidebar of Antisocial, which can be indexed in a more unique way. Sounds tricky? Not at all… Antisocial features a little section in the backend where you simply need to enter your personal details and we’ll create your hCard for you! :)

Another first with Antisocial is that the theme has been localized** (read more on localization). This means that the theme can now be translated to any other language without having to modify the source code. So with Antisocial you’ll be able to make new friends in a variety of other languages! :)

Here’s a look at some of the other styles that has been included in Antisocial…

The Light Blue Style

Before you give us some awesome feedback on the theme, why not check out the theme demo first and indulge in its awesomeness before posting your thoughts. Look forward to being social in the comments…

**Coffee Break, Fresh News & Busy Bee have been localized and we’ll spend the next month localizing all of our older themes. But we’ll write a post about this next week. In the meantime, find a tutorial on translation here.

The Wallpaper

To celebrate the release, Tim van Damme made you all a nice little desktop wallpaper, to remind you to “Get out and meet real people”… So download the wallpaper, add it to your desktop and show off some Max Voltar awesomeness to your PC / Mac.

Now don’t say that we never gave you anything for free… :)

It’s good to see that localization is a bonus… gives us motivation to do the older themes too :) (I’ve done 4 already)

And are you localising only text phrases, or have you thought about other date and time formats in different zones?
You know – in USA they are using dd-mm-yyyy, in EU it is mm. dd. yyyy, and there are places where they use for example dd/mm yyyy etc…
Have you “localised” date&time stuff to make it easier to upgrade and localise?

        Thanks for gorgeous themes!

No we haven’t done that yet, but you make a valid point and i’ll see if we can get that done as well :)

Excellent work Woothemes. There gonna be a lot of questions for this theme I guess. Get Gravatar is really nice too. Kalender nice design.

Wouldn´t it nice to see on headline the next event coming up in the calender?
And also: “what you missed the last days…” something like that.

But one more idea: If you design a apple style like theme I guess you would catch a lot of new clients. Slick, silverlike, glossy, elegant jquery sliders – hell this would be incredible.

But this theme is something new- cool.

The calendar was the trickiest part to code in this theme, and I don’t think the calendar widget has a feature like that, although it sounds nice :)

An apple style theme is coming up in a new re-design of VibrantCMS :)

        good news

I guess to push an excerpt of next event on headspace would be very useful for other pages too. If a company invites for en event and you could join by click or something like that.
        This would be outstanding.

Apple style theme coming up? wow. When? Of course here you would like to use some cool jquery tools – apple like UI.

And could i change article feature by page feature in homepage ?

    Thanks for this good work

Is there a way to have the full entry posted on the main page as opposed to just part and then the _read more link?

Not out of the box, but a very easy customization that a forum ninja would be able to help you with.

I love it when wordpress theme designers release themes often, but in this case I’m not really too sure about this theme.

Compared to other woothemes, it’s possibly a 4 out of 10.

Just not really keen on the layout, design, colours.. it could be better. But still great work guys :)

      28 August 2009 at 12:46 am #

The layout, design and colors is what is great and original about this theme :) Not to mention it is designed by TVD :)

Out of all the themes on WooThemes, this has to be my current favorite.

After closer inspection of Antisocial, I’m going to side with Naweed. I really, really like the overall design of antisocial; yet, certain elements of the theme (the styling of the post text for example) could benefit from extra design attention.

Also, not sure what the terms are between woothemes and the author or the Lifestream plugin; yet, custom styles for that plugin would rock as well.

Good theme, I’ll buy either sooner or latter depending on my email query…

    • Aaron
      28 August 2009 at 7:55 am #

…and the first three columns of the Antisocial theme are begging for the option to be absolutely positioned.

      :-)

Lifestreaming is something Antisocial will support in the next few weeks.

I’m not hating the theme at all, I just wish there could be a wow factor to it and less busy, everything seems muddled up with the social bookmarks, logo and navigation bar. It sure is different but not to my liking.

If anyone has seen the up and coming lifestream theme by press75.com, that’s something I really can’t wait for! PLus it’s free!

I’m anxiously waiting for Backstage, Exposure, SophisticatedFolio wootheme releases! So please hurry up :)

    • Magnus Jepson
      28 August 2009 at 8:34 am #

There is clearly a majority that thinks this theme is the best and most unique theme ever, but there are also those that probably are used to something more traditional, which is totally fair.

As a designer, I think it is “all that” :)

It looks like a BuddyPress template… You shoud integrate id for BuddyPress, because there is a lack of nice templates.

    • Mark Forrester
      30 August 2009 at 4:57 pm #

BuddyPress is still very new to us, I’m sure it will be an area we explore soon, but it’s not on the immediate agenda for theme releases.

    • Adii Rockstar
      31 August 2009 at 1:01 am #

I also think with the changes to BuddyPress’ templating framework (in V1.1) it may be a bit premature to invest a lot of time into it. WordPress on the other hand is very mature and there’s nothing that suggests they’re gonna make major changes to the templating engine in the nearby future.

Is there a custom admin section or is it all done via widgets? If the former, can you post a screenshot?

Awesome work Brad. Great work in such a short time period. Look forward to seeing it materializing even further!

        30 August 2009 at 5:49 pm #

Thanks Mark. It started out as a fun experiment but will very likely become my first personal blog. As you can tell I added and widgetized a new right column and created a header and future top navigation. The overall site width is not something I would necessarily use on a client website but since its a personal site I can get away with it.

WooThemes makes modifications pretty easy because everything is so well commented. Your framework has come along nicely.

That’s awesome to hear Brad! :) We’d love to see a blog post on the new blog about your experiences with the “new” WooFramework.

          Hey Brad,

you have juggled very well with the components of this theme. I like the fact that you use a 1280px width. Just like IE6 a 1024px width is oldschool (although I can see the point why everyone still does it).

In fact you inspired me to finally buy this theme myself. ;-)

Woothemes, I just love your work! And I am not even a designer or programmer. Yeah, I don’t even earn money in this business. If this isn’t an indicator of excellent work… :D
