Rock Out
30. Sep, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in New Themes
5 weeks ago we asked you whether you wanted this on WooThemes and after 73% of you begged us, we’ve made Rockstar available for download.
This is the slightly tweaked design that I previously used on my blog and since the feedback on the design has always been pretty good; I really didn’t want the design to go to waste. So we’ve spent a bit of time to bring it up to WooThemes-quality (since when I code for myself, I include only the absolute necessities) and it is now rocking out with the latest version of the WooFramework.
You’ll also note that the demo includes examples of posts with both images and videos, so you’d be able to replicate my videoblogging efforts if you were so inclined.
Overall though, I think (as well as our beta-testers – that have had a play around with Rockstar – tend to agree) Rockstar is a great, free alternative if you’re looking to spice up your personal blog a little. It’s nothing fancy, but gets the job done stylishly enough to warrant a little play, don’t you think?
Check out the demo or download your free copy over here.
Rockstar Desktop Wallpaper
This wallpaper is a little adaptation from the background imagery (for the default style) which is in use in the Rockstar WordPress theme. Now, you too can sport this funky-looking, vibrantly, striped image on your desktop wallpaper.
All in the name of being more of a Rockstar of course…
The wallpaper is available in 5 different sizes:

I guess you provided this because people voted for it, but frankly there were others (such as Delegate) that I would far prefer.

Delegate isn’t even coded yet, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer for that one…

Not that I am demanding more but I love the vibrant colors and would love these colors on my desktop. Wallpaper maybe?

We’ll release a wallpaper shortly yeah.

Maybe the first I don’t like… :-/

Each to his own
It’s a freebie though, so I’m sure it will serve a market.

Mediocre theme. Lacking the class that all the other WooThemes has. Remember guys! Quality over Quantity!
Keep it up

Thanks a lot man…. for this beautiful theme.

This theme is not as awesome as other Woo Themes. Anyway, it’s free!

the red Version Look awesome

I love this theme, since the first day I saw it on adii.co.za. Maybe you need to be an oldskool blogger to really digg it, but the simplicity is awesome.. Running it on my blog.

Man everyone needs to chill. Adii simply asked if anyone wanted this theme a while back and everyone loved it and was happy as a lark that it would be a free theme. This is by no means a new theme but simply the theme that Adii has used on his personal blog for quite some time. This reminds of what my dad would say. “You would complain even if I hung you with a new rope”.

I know this was your personal blog theme and all, but have to say there’s really nothing super special about it. It IS free, so one can’t be too picky.
Bring on the other themes you’ve been working on!
30 September 2009 at 3:17 pm #
We released this theme because you (the readers) wanted it to be a WooThemes release
We never claimed there was anything super special about. It’s just a nice and simple blog theme, and that’s why it’s free.

Suh… weet! Thanks guys!

MEDIOCRE theme, but you get what you paid.
You guys can do better, I know there were some people asking for this UGLY theme but I think is time to work guys! Create something NEW, DIFFERENT. I’m still waiting for a good theme so I can buy it for sure.

Hehe, love how you have capitalized all of the emotive words in that comment.
I think that the fact Rockstar already has 300+ downloads in one day suggests that it’s not a bad release at all… Plus it’s free which just adds to the awesomeness.

Seriously, guys – it’s F-R-E-E! What’s with the complaints? If a freebie isn’t your cup of tea, just say ‘thanks,’ then move on. There’s no sense in complaining when someone gives you something for nothing in return.
If this was paid theme, then by all means voice your negative opinions. Compared to other paid, premium themes out there, WooThemes’ free stuff is top notch and a level above the rest.

My thoughts exactly!

Wow! Your themes are awesome and I love that you guys provide a few free themes too. I just featured the Premium News theme on my theme showcase site and I’ll be looking into adding more WooThemes soon! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for that; appreciate the publicity and kind words!

Adii, I think people have been a little hard on this theme (possibly short-sighted as well). There will never be a time when I use a theme as-is straight out of the box. “Rockstar” has excellent potential for just about every type of blog.
> Case in point – click on my name above.
Granted there is a lot of stuff built in to the Woo Framework that’s meant to make things easier, but there’s no way I could have done the design AND coding to launch a site in less than seven days.
It allowed me to focus on more important things – like UX and UI. This theme will definitely be a starting point for several of our new projects.
A sincere thank you for your hard work.

Wow, thanks for the words of support Jake!
And Swank City looks great.
Also – judging by the 1500 downloads in the first 7 days of Rockstar being available, I’d suggest that the negative comments on here aren’t representative of the widespread popularity of the theme.
