16. Nov, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

digitalfarmDigital Farm – which was designed in-house by Mark – is the second “recycled” design that we’re releasing here, after my previous blog design (now Rockstar) made it into our themes collection. But where Rockstar was nothing more than a pretty cool free theme; Digital Farm should impress the hell out of you with a bucket load of premium features.

To give you a little history… Mark first launched this version of (his) Digital Farm on his own website about 3 years ago and if you’ve been following him since then, you’d know that this was the design that got him massive acclaim in international CSS design galleries (and pretty much kick started his career as an extremely talented designer). The great thing about this design is that it was still awesome & trendy enough to be featured on Mark’s site as late as a couple of months ago, when he redesigned and relaunched the next version.

So since we’re not the kind of company that enjoys wasting great design, we figured that Digital Farm could be repackaged and released on here. This is how we’ve transformed it…

Personal Blog + Design Portfolio

Yes, yes – we have a lot of portfolio themes in our collection already, but when they’re as awesome as Digital Farm; we just have to make a little place for it.

The coolest thing about Digital Farm is however the fact that it can completely double as a simple business / CMS theme. In addition to the default, colourful style that Mark used on his own site, he also included some cleaner, corporate styles that are much more flexible & extendable than the default design. All of this of course to create themes that are easily adapted and scalable. It gets better though…

Flexibility

This is a first for us at WooThemes, but Digital Farm is coded to accept both a custom header and / or a custom logo. This gives you immense power in terms of mixing & matching some awesomeness together to give your brand / company / website some extra spunk.

Along with that, we’ve included an extremely sexy (yet, optional) slider widget for your portfolio items, as well as a slew of other custom options, widgets & page templates to give you even more choices when setting up the theme. But then again – that’s what you expect from us by now, right? :)

Anyway… I probably need to stop gushing about Digital Farm, as Mark will probably start to think that I’ve got a crush on him or something (weird)… So read more about the detailed features of Digital Farm and check out the demo for some design awesomeness.

Hi Ahmed, I don’t think that has anything to do with the theme, just server load as people are viewing the new demo.

Wow this theme is too simple that’s why I love it.

It’s simplicity make it looks beautiful specially the portfolio image slider in the sidebar, header and footer category navigation.

    Welcome to Wordpress world

the custom header people photo in the snapshot, and also in the video – is it a stock photo? Where I can get it?

However – this is another one great theme from Woo!

Hi Rappel, the image is of the IT Crowd cast and it is not a stock photo, hence not available with the theme.

Hey Mark – LOVE your new site too, so fun!

Where is the original header to Digital Farm though? I liked the wording on it, you should keep it somewhere for posterity. :-)

I also love what you guys have done with this – the flexibility in it gives it so many possibilities!

Hey, this is v. promising as to the direction/customization of Premium Themes that I need! [Plus, listening to the accent in the video is very sexy, as well. Always a plus. Appropos for such a sexy theme.]

A slightly more serious post/question: The Woo Slider — is this included only in this theme, or are there other Woo Themes that include the Woo Slider.

A slightly modified version is also included in Daily Edition and Gazette.

I assume you use Safari? I’ve just fixed a problem with the sidebar and it should look fine now.

I agree that perhaps it doesn’t have the immediate “show pony” looks of some other themes, but I think this one has really excellent customisation potential. You’ve got to see past the default banners and widgets and just look at the spaces, dimensions and basic “engineering”.

is it possible to setup the demo like you showed in your screenshot?
would love to see 3 columns on the frontpage ( recent posts + twitter ) if this is possible.
with different headers and those solid styles you can do anything with this theme. for me spoken, this is the most complex and eyecatching release so far. kudos to mark for this release and woo for realising this with you. as human3rror i have to say finally, simply beautiful

Thanks Tom. It is very simple to set up the theme like the demo, unfortunately though it requires changing theme options which would change across all the alternate styles so we can’t demo it for you. The video explains exactly how it is done though.

hi, I like this theme very much, but i have some question. Is it possible to have just 1 sidebar on the homepage or on the page/post layer to have bigger space for the text ?

and for the catgory menu below the image, can we put what we want inside, even static pages, hide some pages or is it done automaticly ?

    thanks.

Yes – it would be possible to only have one widgetized sidebar, but you would need to customize the template files accordingly. And unfortunately we don’t have a custom navigation system at the moment, but you could do this manually or via a plugin like NavT.

Is it possible to get the theme with the default header without the text “Replaceable header graphic & logo!” and “Originally designed for http://www.markforrester.co.za“?

The default header would work fine out of the box, but that sample text is kinda needless. It does it’s job well in the demo, but maybe not when bundled within the shipped theme? What do you think?

Of course you could buy the developer package, and wipe the text out, but I’m think many would use the theme with the original, default header, when buying the standard package.

    Nevertheless, excellent work!

      Hi Karri,

Should we get more of this request we’ll consider it, but the default header is intended to be replaced as it is quite particular. As you mentioned with the photoshop file you could remove this yourself.

    Love the theme.
My question is about putting Ads into the layout. I see there is one ‘Sponsor’ ad in the demo, but can I input more ads? Perhaps by the header? Side bar? In between posts?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Adii Rockstar
      15 December 2009 at 2:32 am #

Yes you can, but this is unfortunately not supported out of box at the moment.

    15 December 2009 at 10:21 am #

    Thanks Adii.

And just to clarify, as I am not super familiar with this stuff yet. When you say ‘out of box’, does that mean I wont be able to do it if I get the standard version? If I just buy the standard version and down the road it becomes possible, would I automatically get that update? I’m not a developer by any means.

    Thanks….again.

    • Adii Rockstar
      15 December 2009 at 10:31 am #

Out-of-box means that the version you buy, doesn’t support that and you would consequently need to modify the theme files yourself to add that functionality. If we were however to add it in future, you will be eligible to those updates.

I am in love with this WooTheme but my only problem is that the design for the comments and submit fields are ultra plain. I wish I could get the comment design styles from Busy Bee instead. This is seriously the only issue I have that I can’t see an easy work around for and it breaks my heart.

And yeah, like some others have said, a double column version would be really great!
