Introducing the WooThemes Mastercard
03. Dec, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in WooThemes News

We love being first at introducing new things to our users.
Way back in the days of Premium News, we were the first guys to release WP themes with theme options (and we’ve continued to build on this success). We were also the first company to introduce proper club subscriptions (ala “Software as a Service”) & an amazing themes club. And at this stage, I’d bet that if all goes well, we’ll be the first to a few more things moving forward.
Today however, we have something new to introduce and if we had asked anyone to guess beforehand, I’m sure no one would’ve gotten it right. In conjunction with the guys over at Payoneer, we’re releasing a brand-new WooThemes Mastercard for our affiliates & members.
Why a Mastercard?
Firstly, we wanted to add an alternative payment option for all of our affiliates; especially those who reside in countries that doesn’t offer PayPal support (for receiving funds). The WooThemes Mastercard is globally accessible and you can use it offline & online; so we’ve achieved that goal.
And secondly, we think it’s quite a cool thing to have (hopefully) thousands of people walking around with a WooThemes Mastercard in their pockets!
The great thing about the card, is that it functions just like any other Mastercard and it is not only limited to usage with WooThemes.
If you’re interested in the WooThemes Mastercard, you can read more about the details over here. If you already have an account with us, it is as easy as logging in and signing up for the card from your user dashboard. If not, you can sign-up to become an affiliate (and earn some serious cash) over here.
OH: And we think you should get the card before Christmas; just to fuel some extra spending!

What ?! No Wooja’s on the card ? I really like those little fellows…

If there’s enough interest generated for the cards, then we’ll do a re-print, as the costs involved with a complete, custom design are quite significant.

SSIICCKNNESS! I can’t believe we have out very own plastic! WOOT!

A Wootheme Mastercard well that’s something I would never of thought of.
I don’t seem to get the benefits of having a Mastercard with WooThemes, maybe if you could collect WooPoints with this and spend them on themes that would seem more appealing?
If I use this card to buy my petrol what benefit would I get rather than using my other credit card that offers me spending points for high street shops? For example.
Cheers
Chris

WooPoints is something that is on our agenda. Watch this space in 2010.
And there is obviously no added benefit to use this card, instead of your other cards. But Payoneer has quite a few partners online, which means that this is a great way of receiving money from those partners (should you be an affiliate or sell something through their networks). Therein probably lies the biggest benefit.

The point system sounds like one of the best ideas which would benefit me
but yes I can see this will help users in countries that don’t except PayPal etc.
Just had a quick look on Payoneer and the card is more of a virtual bank account isn’t it, you just pay affiliate commission onto the card rather than into a paypal account.
The fees for the card though do seem to be a lot if you don’t make that much affiliate commission, I assume it would be only good for people outside the USA, UK or countries without PayPal?

The fees aren’t that high, if you consider that they only really apply to ATM withdrawals (and those would probably compare quite well to your traditional banks). Using the card online mimics PayPal both in function & fee structures I think.

There is a monthly fee for the card though right? Its a good idea. $1-$3?
And say you get all your money paid onto the card the only way to get the money out is via ATM and this would incur a fee?
3 December 2009 at 9:31 am #
Fair, but isn’t that the same with PayPal (about withdrawing your funds)?
3 December 2009 at 9:40 am #
If I got paid £50 commission into my PayPal, then I transferred my PayPal account funds into my bank account I would not be charged no.
Then I could withdraw my money using my debit card from a ATM free of charge.
As I said it is a good idea if people dont have access to PayPal.
Cheers

Wow, now I can also participate in this space…thank you Adii and team for opening up this opportunity to all publishers outside PayPal’s scope.
You’re indeed setting trends and not following them, hope the rest of affiliate vendors could take a leaf from your initiative which will surely grow your affiliate network as more publishers will now be selling your themes.
This is exactly how Google has approached it by enable publishers like myself to get paid by cheque for their adsense program.

Hold on…you can use the card online AND offline!! What a selling point!
3 December 2009 at 9:38 am #
Hehe, well spotted James. We think the card sells itself really; so whilst the copy may not be so “selling”, the card is still cool!

If I remember correctly, Paypal has a standard 3.9% on all payments up to around $1000.00 per month. Once you reach over a $1k for the month they drop the rate to 1.9% . This is a standard type rate that many merchant accounts and credit card machines charge. The more volume you have the better the rate is.

This would only matter to the WooTheme Team though, wouldn’t it?
WooThemes would have to build these costs in, as an end user (affiliate) if I earned $50 I would be paid $50 and transfer to my bank without any fees

*If I were to use PayPal

Hey, It was just an example of a figure. I assume the affiliate commission is paid in $ here at WooThemes, so I used $ for an example
