Preview: The New WooFramework (Video)
14. Dec, 2009 by Adii Rockstar in Development
As we have mentioned in the last week, we’ve been working on a new version (2.0) of the WooFramework, which we’ll be releasing with Optimize tomorrow. The integration of WooFramework 2.0 with Optimize, serves as the public beta of the new framework and we’d like to fix all of the possible bugs first, before we integrate it into all our older themes (all 54 of them).
So all of our subscribers who will get access to Optimize tomorrow, will have the opportunity to play with the new options panel & framework. For the rest, the following preview video will have to do the trick…

Keep up the great work guys. Can’t wait to see what 2010 brings for us.
Does the “all themes” include the free ones?
Cheers.

Of course!
That’s just how we roll…

Wow, impressive work on the framework guys. Love the layout, tabs, and the little details like the color picker and image upload options. I’ve been around WP for a while now, and I have to say, this is setting the bar pretty high for premium theme frameworks.

Thanks so much for the kind words!
We definitely believe that this is another step in the right direction for the WooFramework and we’re excited to continue building on this (we’ve already got beta versions of some additions ready; so they’ll be rolling out in early 2010).

Looks great. I think the export and import options is going to be a huge hit. A brilliant idea.
14 December 2009 at 5:17 am #
I think the import / export functionality is a great example of how one’s users can “dictate” the progression in a digital product. This is not something that we’d ever really use internally and hence why we haven’t included it before. But user suggestions & feedback has most definitely fueled this one!

Some of us have been privy to Beta Test the framework, if you think it looks GREAT wait till you use it its really a cut above — Well there’s no competition –
Cheers

I love it too, Wait for the 15 December!

Can’t wait to download and use the new framework with Optimize!

Looking awesome guys nice to see you still pushing the envelope on wordpress development, all the best for 2010 I can’t wait

this control panel will availlable on all themes?Or just for Optimize?
14 December 2009 at 10:54 am #
For now it’ll only be Optimize, but in January we’ll roll it out for all of the themes.
14 December 2009 at 12:42 pm #
Love that import/export idea ! That’ll be a huge help. Color pickers also look promising – I’m forever going through the CSS files customising colors.
14 December 2009 at 2:39 pm #
I don’t think that color pickers will ever replace CSS, as I just don’t believe in that. But the way we’ve setup Optimize, the color pickers definitely makes a big difference (without replacing the CSS).

Looks great, guys! It’s innovation like this that makes you guys the best in the crowded WP theme arena. The import/export function will be a huge help to my workflow. Keep up the great work!

Great Framework, it’s better than the old one!
14 December 2009 at 1:38 pm #
Looks good. Quick question regarding the export. What is the main reason for the encoded export rather than plain text?
14 December 2009 at 2:38 pm #
Because it looks cooler!?
I honestly don’t know, as the functionality was handled by Fox & Jeff; so I’d need to ask them to comment.
16 December 2009 at 2:06 pm #
Fair enough, would be great to have it in plain text. Then the user can easily make text modifications also, an xml or ini file format would be cool.
18 December 2009 at 7:56 am #
I agree with Wesley, having the export as plain text XML or similar would be a much better solution here. The encoding is unnecessary and obstructive.
However, I LOVE the framework v2, Adii! Awesome work from the WooTeam again

I don’t know if anyone has adressed this, but are you going to make the Woo branding replaceable? Probally, Not an issue to indivifuals, but for use designers, that are using your websites as a soild platform.
Major props on making it much easier to develope offline, that has been a huge issue for wordpress platforms.
14 December 2009 at 4:26 pm #
Yes – it is on our roadmap to include functionality to modify the branding of the backend.
15 December 2009 at 7:58 am #
So cool about the export/import feature, very well thought. Maybe the “encoding” is to prevent, less savvy developers to mangle the options in DB?
Now that Woothemes have a heavy featured backend, it will be interesting to see, if it later will support webdesign features, like grid-design, placement of widgets and sidebar areas, etc
15 December 2009 at 10:01 am #
Did I see right??? The new framework allows you to import options from OTHER woo themes?!?!
15 December 2009 at 10:09 am #
hmm, seems unlikely, as that would require all Woothemes to have equal options – which is not the case.
I expect the export/import feature to be related to the same theme – but surely, makes it much easier to administer the migration phase from development to production.
(then we just need a table to store the exports with date & version number – would make it a complete version-controle system, for the design as well!)
15 December 2009 at 10:29 am #
Nope, that’s not entirely it…
The functionality allows you to export the settings on one installation of Optimize (on a localhost for example) to your live site using Optimize.
15 December 2009 at 11:02 am #
I like the effort put in this new, more standardized framework. However, still I would really like an option to hide these framework settings all together. My customers ask me to style their website and I decide to base my theme on WooThemes. The enduser shouldn’t be bothered with that. Especially the ‘Buy Themes’ button and the logo are very undesirable. Please consider integrating an option to get rid of this, regardless of a loss of functionality, so I won’t have to keep on modifying files.
15 December 2009 at 12:13 pm #
As mentioned above, this is on our roadmap and will be integrated in the new year!

The ideal situation:
- The module label made dynamic, so that when my own theme is a child of Optimize, it won’t show ‘Optimize’ anymore, but ‘My_Child_Theme_Name’.
- An XML file in the original theme, containing all the names/types of options in the control panel, hierarchically. When modified and copied to the child theme, it changes the display of them.

Do you need a translation of your Framework into German?
Then let me know via mail!
18 December 2009 at 5:20 pm #
Will these color pickers work with all the various themes that you’ve got?
I am planing to get your ‘Headlines’ theme for my current blog and will this new framework’s options apply to that? you know what I mean — The color picker and stuff???
19 December 2009 at 4:38 am #
Hello,
The color picker is unique to Optimize, but I think it will be fairly easy to integrate that into Headlines as well. I’ll give it a shot!
19 December 2009 at 6:35 am #
Updated headlines to version 2.1 now with a colour picker for top background and link/button color: http://www.jepson.no/u/x2nk1i.png

I would like to know if the Options are Serialized? Or does each one use a separate row in the Options Table.
Thanks.
