WooFramework’ed V2

21

by Adii Rockstar in WooThemes News

We’re glad to announce that all of our themes (yep, every single one of them) have now been updated to the latest version of our WooFramework. Version 2 of the WooFramework (which we first previewed last month), includes a complete re-design of the theme option’s panel, as well as the inclusion of a new basis for us to deploy more features in the next couple of weeks.

In the last couple of weeks, WF2 had been available in a handful of our themes and we are extremely happy about the feedback that we had gotten from both our beta testers and the users of those themes. All of the major bugs have been squashed properly and at the time of writing this post, we aren’t aware of any other bugs that have not been treated. So you can upgrade with some peace of mind! :)

The beautiful new theme option's panel

You can also start to get excited (we’ve been excited for a while now), about some amazing new functionality that will be added on top of WF2 in the next couple of weeks. All I’ll say is that we are currently working on something that will revolutionize your navigational menu’s & structures and that we’re very close to deploying this to all themes. We’ve done some internal beta testing and this functionality should go out to our beta testing group soon, thereafter we hope to start deploying it to our themes in 2 / 3 weeks’ time. (Which goes to show that ExpressionEngine is most definitely not the only thing we are thinking about.)

UPGRADING

If you would like to update your old version of a theme / WooFramework, you simply need to download the latest version from your control panel and then update the /themename/functions/ folder only via FTP. Voila!

The first time you click on your options panel, it might look like it’s broken or messy. If this happens, simply hard refresh (CTRL + F5 in FireFox) or clear your browser cache.

This update isn’t marked in the changelog.txt, but in /functions/changelog.txt

You can find more information on upgrading your theme(s) here.

We’ve noted above that we don’t update changelog.txt in theme folder for WF updates. They are in their own folder: http://is.gd/6wxE7

Oh nice, I can export the theme options now. So when I develop a theme locally I can easily ensure the same settings are on the live site when I’m ready to install. Nice addition guys!

how do you do it? With the theme-options.php?

So you develope first the local setting?

Pedro, a good way to develop WordPress themes is to use something like MAMP and work locally – it is much faster than uploading a file and refreshing the page every time you make changes.

What this new option does is allow me to set up the Woo options the way I want it the export the settings. On the live site on the internet I install WordPress, upload the theme that I modified then import the Woo settings and everything should work fine.

Upgraded Fresh News and don’t see Navigation, Top Ad or Content Ad configuration blocks — was also hoping that the 125×125 Ad configuration allowed for Google Adsense code to be inserted since AdSense supports 125×125 “buttons”, would make it really easy to put a google-powered run of buttons a la TechCrunch sidebar on your site.

    Congratulations on the release!

Just to make sure – there is no new functionality or fixes in this update as it relates to the actual themes and widgets, correct? It’s just the settings screens, right?
