Design Canvas
03. Feb, 2010 by Adii Rockstar in New Themes
Here’s a preview of a little something-something that we’ve been cooking up behind the scenes. When we release this beauty next week, you can be assured that it’ll be unlike anything else that we’ve released before. Promise.

When release this theme?
3 February 2010 at 7:45 am #
Next week probably as noted in the post content.
4 February 2010 at 12:52 am #
it gonna be kinda thesis theme right?
4 February 2010 at 2:15 am #
Nope, not really. We’re trying to keep things simple with a few added, basic design options.
3 February 2010 at 7:45 am #
@bolo The article does say: “When we release this beauty next week”..
3 February 2010 at 7:46 am #
Really looking forward to this one, Adii.
Magnus definitely has it going on here…
3 February 2010 at 7:47 am #
You have absolutely no idea!
Told you that this was gonna be totally different to what you have come to know / expect from the WooTeam.
3 February 2010 at 7:54 am #
Is this more of a framework or (addon to the wooframework)? Or a unique theme in itself?
PS – I think you guys should work on one theme that out of the box is small on fonts. Perhaps something on these lines: http://themeforest.net/item/levitation-wordpress-business-portfolio-4-in-1/full_screen_preview/60299
http://themeforest.net/item/sleek-business/full_screen_preview/20335
http://themeforest.net/item/cubit-6-in-1-business-portfolio-theme/full_screen_preview/38712
Incidentally I see they are from the same designer. May you’d like to work with him too
3 February 2010 at 8:05 am #
It’s not a true framework, but it will be a theme that can easily be customized both in the options panel and by child themes if that is your sort of thing
3 February 2010 at 1:25 pm #
I’m still thinking Woo/Thesis theme with endless options and as with Thesis and the like, child themes!
4 February 2010 at 10:23 pm #
Magnus is THE man after all………very excited for this.
3 February 2010 at 7:54 am #
I think its a theme framework. If am not wrong.:)
3 February 2010 at 8:01 am #
neat!
3 February 2010 at 8:03 am #
If this is anything along the same lines as what Drupal Gardens are doing for Drupal in-theme visual editing, then this will be a great additional to the framework.
Are you planning on rolling this out across all the themes in time?
3 February 2010 at 8:37 am #
No it’s not an in-theme visual editing thingy
3 February 2010 at 8:39 am #
Haha, no worries. You guys are making great progress with your themes and theme management – really looking forward to seeing how far you can push it this year
3 February 2010 at 1:35 pm #
Agreed
3 February 2010 at 8:41 am #
Magnus…this is mad sexy!
3 February 2010 at 10:40 am #
You guys have perfected the art of the “teaser” very well ! There always seems to be some great thing just around the corner
3 February 2010 at 10:47 am #
That can be attributed to the WooThemes Marketing Machine.
3 February 2010 at 11:40 am #
Looks interesting. I was hoping it would be your microblog/Tumblr style theme, but I’m still crossing my fingers!
3 February 2010 at 3:36 pm #
That’s coming but this is not that
3 February 2010 at 11:44 am #
Something similar I sow in wpbandit’s screencasts, but it seems very useful to chose from right sidebar or left, 2 or sidebars options would be great, and chosing the number of columns is a nice idea too.
3 February 2010 at 12:50 pm #
So – is this a theme or a platform that will be integrated into the already awesome themes?
3 February 2010 at 2:55 pm #
It’s a theme, but the styling options are included in the WooFramework and hence all the themes. So you would be possible to use it in any of our themes, even though we won’t retrospectively integrate this in those themes (also because the options are more suited to a minimalist design).
3 February 2010 at 1:25 pm #
Can’t wait to see this, I was actually about to cancel my membership but this might keep me around a little longer!
3 February 2010 at 2:41 pm #
Good to hear that. And I’ve got the feeling that the other new stuff we have coming in February & March will get you to stay on even longer!
3 February 2010 at 1:30 pm #
And they named it……. Builder! A blockbuster tool for web design with Wordpress.
3 February 2010 at 2:38 pm #
No man. Please don’t compare. This is nothing close to being as awesome as Builder…
Seriously though, I haven’t seen Builder and haven’t watched the videos. This new theme we’re working on just serves as something completely different to what we have done before; so it’s an awesome way of diversifying the options of our subscribers!
3 February 2010 at 3:03 pm #
Looking forward to seeing it
3 February 2010 at 1:31 pm #
oh la la
3 February 2010 at 1:40 pm #
This theme is gonna be S(l)ICK!!
3 February 2010 at 1:45 pm #
This looks very promising. Just when I thought you guys were getting content with your themes, you go and drop a bomb like this.
3 February 2010 at 2:36 pm #
We’re not the kinda guys that likes to sit still ya’know…
3 February 2010 at 3:37 pm #
Looking awesome Adii.
I love how WooThemes is always expanding and trying new things
Great work Magnus and to anyone else who is working on this.
3 February 2010 at 3:40 pm #
hey hey, this looks real nice. I’m exited again.
3 February 2010 at 7:09 pm #
Any chance a new magazine theme is coming soon?
4 February 2010 at 12:24 am #
Yep, we’ve got two designs in the backlog which should come to release in the next 2 / 3 months.
3 February 2010 at 8:52 pm #
This looks awesome. Definitely a step up from the ‘norm’. You guys are always a source of inspiration, and a company I definitely look up to a lot.
4 February 2010 at 12:25 am #
Thanks for the kind words Mike! We hope to continue inspiring!
4 February 2010 at 9:48 am #
I am confused but excited at the same time
4 February 2010 at 12:03 pm #
You know Woo. They will keep you on the edge of your seat but from I can take from the image this will be a minimalist theme that has a heap ton of options for layout elements. All of Woo’s previous themes are basically a fixed theme meaning that what you see is what you get in terms of columns and layouts unless you customize.
This theme appears to allow you the option to set your layout from within the themes admin. My question is will I be able to have different layouts across the index.php, single.php and page.php? Will I have the layouts options on the add new pages/post area when I create a new page/post?
4 February 2010 at 1:40 pm #
Yes, yes, yes and yes

I’ve just purchased my first theme here. I absolutely love the Postcard theme, but the other two “free” themes were not really needed. I wish I’ve waited a little bit longer so I’ve could have gotten this one
It looks exactly like the thing I would like to see (as a hobby designer). Anyways I could not be happier with the postcard theme, so I can’t really complain
5 February 2010 at 12:20 pm #
Unless you only intend to have 3 to 5 sites max, the bargain is getting the developer packages. Sure its more $$$ upfront but Woo has demonstrated that they will constantly push the envelope to create new themes and theme ideas. In the long run the developer packages are the best deal available on the web.
6 February 2010 at 12:09 pm #
Cant wait to see what you have cooking down in the dev dungeons of the Woo house….lol BRING IT ON BABY!!!!
7 February 2010 at 5:51 pm #
ooh, can’t wait for this one.
8 February 2010 at 6:57 pm #
I had a ton of fun beta testing this theme and Magnus has really shined bright on this one.
Also really appreciative of how WooThemes interacts with their customers. A lot to be learned there.
