New Nich(EE) Themes

2

by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

Much of our ExpressionEngine themes up until now have been geared towards businesses, but we’re hoping to change that a bit with the release of two, awesome new EE themes: modern-magazine favourite, Daily Edition, and niche, geolocation-hotness, City Guide.

Daily Edition

We know that many of our ExpressionEngine users have been begging us to release some news / magazine type themes for the platform (as these are severely lacking in the EE-world), so we figured that in addition to all-time best-seller, Fresh News, we should release current favourite, Daily Edition.

We’re obviously just happy to make it easy for you to run a content-heavy website on whatever CMS platform you decide to do that… :)

City Guide

This has been one of our most innovative themes to date (and judging by the Theme Leaderboard: definitely one that is popular with our users) and we’re so excited to bring this niche functionality to the EE platform as well.  Bjorn says it was a bit of a challenge to port City Guide to EE, but we’re extremely happy with the results and we look forward to hear what you guys & girls think of the theme after you’ve had a play… this theme could be a great start for a commercial “listings-site” for instance (think of what you can do with user submissions via SAEF, custom statuses for the listings (“Waiting for approval”), and subscription payments with Membrr.. the possibilities are endless).

Custom User Messages Template

All our themes now come bundled with Brian Litzinger’s excellent Cusom System Messages extension, so never again shall we see the default EE user messages dialog ;) (.. and yes!, we haven’t forgotten about that SEO module either! We’ll keep improving the themes).

DISCOUNT! We’d love for you to try out our new EE themes, so why not use “NICHEE” as your coupon code and grab 50% discount on any ExpressionEngine purchase (10 coupons available)?

New: Auto Updating the WooFramework

4

by Adii Rockstar in Development

Sometimes we release stuff without telling you guys and in recent weeks we’ve probably made it a habit to do a soft release of new features (to serve as a beta of sorts), before announcing these features publicly.

So another one of these features to have (silently) made it into the WooFramework, is the ability to automatically update the WooFramework from older versions. The early version of this functionality looks like this:

Quick, easy & in the WooFramework.

WooNav’d

15

by Adii Rockstar in Development

Just a very quick update to let you know that the WooNav functionality is now available with all of our themes (actually it has been for about 2 weeks already). If it doesn’t look like your theme is supporting it at the moment, just upgrade to the latest version of the theme (get help here) and you’ll be good to go.

As you know, we contributed the code for WooNav to the upcoming release of WordPress 3.0. At this stage, there is still some doubt whether WooNav (renamed as Menu’s of course) will make it into the final release of WP 3.0, which is why we’ve made it available in all of our themes for now. When WP 3.0 is however released with support for Menu’s, the WooFramework will give you the option of toggling between the WooNav functionality, or the core Menu’s functionality.

Tumbling Snippets

13

by Mark Forrester in New Themes

We are pleased to announce a new addition to our growing portfolio of WooThemes Tumblr based themes – it’s called Snippet.

The Snippet Home Page

The Snippet home page serves as a showcase of all your latest Tumblr posts, neatly arranged and categorized thanks to clean iconography and a very flexible JS Masonry powered grid layout (that we’ve previously used on a WordPress theme – Mortar). You’ll notice some Generate theme influences we’ve included, based on its recent track record.

Promoting Apz

22

by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

We’re going back to the niches with our next release of Apz, which we believe will be the perfect theme to showcase & promote your iPhone / Blackberry / mobile app… Heck, we even think it’d be amazing for web apps or as a standard business theme due to the flexible controls we’ve built into the theme (to make it more generic if you so choose).

This is what you can look forward to…

City Guide Gets Some New Features

16

by Mark Forrester in Development

City Guide has surprisingly been one of our best sellers over the last couple months, as our theme leaderboard proves. We say surprisingly because it is a niche directory-based theme, with innovative Google Maps integration, but far from our usual winning formula.

Given it’s popularity and the wonderful feedback from users and beta testers Fox spent a couple days last week adding some hugely valuable additional functionality.

Category Maps

View all your category posts on a overview map

As can be seen above, and on the demo, there is now an overview map on each category page. This map shows each post, which has a Google Maps location added to it, on the map in the form of a marker. You can then click on that marker to be taken directly to that post. This is a great visual navigation item to highlight all the restaurants, hotels, visitor attractions, etc, individually.

Pictos: Free Tumblr Icons

13

by Adii Rockstar in Freebies

We recently discovered Drew Wilson‘s amazing work on Dribbble and after seeing him publish this teaser post, we decided to contact him about working with the WooTeam to bring some of that awesomeness over here.

The result is a free, vector icon set which contains 21 icons that are perfectly suited for your Tumblr & tumblog needs. Considering that we have released three tumblog themes on WP and another four on Tumblr, we thought that icons in this niche would be a nice little added bonus for all of our users. So this is what that awesomeness looks like:

With Spectrum the home page is a visually rich layout showcasing your website content via engaging imagery, and a featured scroller available to highlight noteworthy blog posts scattered across numerous categories (it’s a tag based scroller).

New Theme Documentation

11

by Adii Rockstar in Development

A while back we had our first WooWeek (which had it’s own challenges; but that’s for another post) and we’re sure that many of you are wondering what we actually did during that week…

Well, one of the things that has been on our to do list for a while now, was to redesign & optimize our theme documentation a bit, as the existing format probably wasn’t as usable as it should be. So this is what the revised theme docs now look like:

Canvas Theme Documentation

If you can remember what the old theme docs looked like, we’ve basically changed this for the new version:
