The Morning After

A few weeks ago, we got an e-mail from Arun Kale – the mastermind behind one of the first, and most significant, magazine themes in the WP community – asking us whether we were keen to purchase the theme and take control of it’s future maintenance.

Considering the significance of this theme, we jumped at the opportunity and as of today The Morning After now has a honorary spot in our themes collection.

Arun handed over an awesome theme and as a result we didn’t want to change much in the theme (for now anyway). We also didn’t want to tinker with an obvious winning formula, considering that the last version of TMA, received over 60 000 downloads on Arun’s own site. But we couldn’t claim this to be a WooTheme, if we didn’t add a few, new awesome Woo-typical features.

Since getting our hands stuck into theme, we’ve made the following changes:

  • Integration of the WooFramework
  • Addition of Dynamic Image Resizing
  • Inclusion of all the standard (and some TMA-specific) Woo Widgets
  • Theme Localization
  • Custom Headers & Background (via native WP 3.0 functionality)
  • Custom Post Types for “Updates”

At this stage, Menu’s aren’t supported as the original design didn’t include a navigation by default. So this is something that we will be revisiting in the next week or two.

Why TMA?

We felt that TMA started so many things in the WordPress community and considering that we had been very successful in that community until now, we wanted to put our weight behind one of the “pillars” of that community. So that is why we have, and are dedicating our resources in maintaining The Morning After. We hope that you will find value & enjoyment within this free theme! :)

This is surely a great addition to your collection, and a great move from the initial developer. Thus one of the pioneers in the magazine theme world is not forgotten.

    Thank you Woo team!

That’s the idea: we don’t want such a great theme (with so much “history”) to go to waste.

This is certainly a great release! TMA was once very popular, but honestly, quite troublesome to use since we have to do pretty much everything manually. Now that WooThemes has worked its magic on it. Clever move to go after it! :)

This is great! Another perfect way for someone to have a great theme by woothemes for free. I really believe it gets people to see the amazing functionality and user interface. If…big if…you try and move to another theme club you really miss the ui and features. This is a win and will convert fence sitters!

While I use Canvas (Best Theme Ever – for me), I think it’s great that you are doing this for the community.

Any likelihood of this getting released for Drupal 7?

Maybe… We’re definitely upgrading our other Drupal themes, so this is possible. :)

Very cool! TMA was the first magazine-style theme I ever used, and I loved it.

It’s like owning a part of history, isn’t it? :-)

This was always one of my favorite WordPress themes — such a great, great design and I think still one of the best overall frameworks for a design. Love that you guys are now the owners because I know it will mean cool things for the future!

    Congrats!

Great addition to the Woo family of themes. I actually happened upon this while doing the 5 for 1 deal and tried to purchase it. That’s when I realized it’s FREE!

Fabulous theme that I can’t wait to find a use for!

I’ve been using TMA for quite sometime now, and love it.

Only one thing I’ve been unable to get to work though…I cannot get a tag at the bottom of my list of posts on my front page.

I have been using TMA for few months now and love it. I hope it remains free of charge as before. Thank you for supporting this theme.

There are no plans in the works that would ever make this a paid-for theme. We purchased it to maintain it as a free theme. :)

    Hey guys,

very cool of you. thanks so much for all this great work. I’d love to give TMA a try but whenever I access it, I get an error message:

    “Error establishing database connection”.

Was the Mashable Feature too much for your servers??

    Cheers,

    Philipp

Our servers have been under constant DDoS attacks in the last few days; so we’re busy resolving those at the moment.

What was the cost of acquisition of the theme?
