Last week, we announced our brand-new iPhone app – Express – and the (free) WooTumblog plugin that can turn any WordPress-powered website into a tumblog with an iPhone app for mobile publishing. Soon thereafter, we also updated our flagship theme – Canvas – to support Express out-of-box.
So our work is done for now. But here’s where your work starts…
Do Express
We would like to invite any & all WordPress theme developers (free or premium) to develop themes that are compatible with Express & the WooTumblog plugin. It is our dream that the plugin would become a standard of sorts in the WP community for developing tumblog themes and because of that we actually spent time with Matt Mullenweg during development to standardize the custom taxonomy of the plugin (in a way that best fits into WP’s own development philosophies).
If you’re a theme developer and interested in this, we’d love to work with you in releasing some compatible themes. We have extensive documentation on the integration available here and would be happy to answer any question you might have via e-mail. In turn, we’d also *love* to feature your work on the Express website as a compatible theme. We’re hoping this will create some nice publicity for other top notch WP developers.
We’re looking forward to see what you guys & girls release soon! ![]()

Will do this for sure for an upcoming free and premium BuddyPress theme. Awesome!
One question though guys.. If I replace the standard loop info with:
Does that mean my users are forced to use the tumblog functionality to write their posts? Or is it build in such a way that regular post titles are still being picked up by that line?
If that is not the case I might need to build in a theme option to “enable tumblog functionality” for those who use the plugin!
You can still write regular posts as well as tumblog posts. The output functions will only display tumblog content if it is a tumblog post
Great for iPhone market.
Exactly how open source is supposed to work.
Superb news! I was thinking of offering a WP based, hosted service where you can choose from a multitude of free themes and they come retrofitted with the WooTumblog plugin after this whirlwind of breakthroughs
Wordumblr?!
We’ve had that idea before as well (with a few twists of course) and think it’s a great idea. So go for it!
We are working on one right now to integrate this on our hosted 1 page website app. Currently working on the best way to allow editing of posts without entering the backend. Modal window is a thought. So to is a simple edit button similar to that of P2.
WooTumblog and Express sure help to make it easier for first time users to interact with WordPress. Nice work guys!
Should be free.
Sounds good, where is link to WooTumblog plugin?
You can grab it here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/woo-tumblog/
Many thanks, Adii. Keep up good work!
This is great. I will try to release a WP tumblog theme based on your plugin.I think with this plugin WordPress kinda swallowed the Tumblr itself.
yes, It was great. I already apply your plug in to one of our site maintained.
Thanks,
