New Ideas: March ’11 Edition

21

by Adii Rockstar in Interactive

It’s that time of the month again, where we’d like to follow-up with what we started last month and highlight some of the ideas (which you have submitted via WooIdeas) that we’re most intrigued about.

Here’s some ideas that are definitely on our radar and probably just needs a bit more love & voting from you before it makes it onto our various to do lists…

  • WooWiki. As you know, we’re extremely passionate about giving our users the best possible experience and thus adding as much value across the board as we can. A WooWiki of sorts is something that interests us, purely because it would allow us to hit all of our aims in this regard. But what would a WooWiki include? And how would it work?
  • Theme Repository / Marketplace. Another intriguing idea, which we believe has loads of potential value for the WooCommunity. Who is gonna use this? Would it just be a sharing facility or is a marketplace more ideal?
  • E-learning Theme. This is obviously something that is becoming more & more popular online, which means at the very least that we need to think about this every now & again. We like the idea and would seriously consider making a move in this space, but we’d also need to see more traction behind the idea.
  • Content Builder as a plugin. We know you absolutely love the Content Builder functionality in Listings, but would you want to see this released as an individual plugin? How would you use it?

Are we missing anything? These are just the ideas that seemingly rings a little bell in the WooHQ when we read them, but obviously your votes and the traction of the WooCommunity behind a specific idea greatly influences the things we’ll be working on…

Very interested in the “Content Builder” plugin. I know it’s not polite to knock on other plugins, especially when they are free, but I would have a lot more confidence in your plugin compared to something like, Magic Fields – which has seen it’s ups and downs (especially with active development) – plus, I’d pay for yours too :) Thanks!

How about a “Secondary Navigation” shortcode/plug in (like Simplicity) that can be added to existing themes.

    Thanks.

Content builder plugin – it’s amazing and makes life so much easier. And I know Woo is about making life easier.

Content builder as a plugin, heck yeah! That would be fantastic.

How about a school themed theme. I know many schools (like mine) are using wordpress, but there are NO themes aimed at out needs. Something like this would be easy for you and fill a much needed niche.

    Keep up the great work.

The final rollout of the WooCommerce plugin would be great.

There are enough posts about the status of WooCommerce.

      amen!

But, I’d rather wait for the perfect one to come out, instead of a rushed one or half of one (with firstdata payment gateway support please!). I got a box with a wad of cash set aside just for woocommerce and the themes that support it ;)

In the mean time, a nice little web app or flowchart to pick out a theme because I can’t make up my mind.

@Everyone – We don’t have much to say on WooCommerce besides that it’s making great progress, heh. Pete has been working on some awesome things, it’s definitely exciting to see it coming along.

@Az – We’re going to be working on a theme recommendation system, we’ve tentatively dubbed WooConcierge. I’m sure we’ll post more about that as the time comes. We want to make it easier for our users to decide on the right theme for them. :)

The content builder is a big YES!
Together with a solid data importer for the content builder and layout manager for custom fields on the front end. Do that and you are the king(s)!

Very interested in the E-learning theme – seems a tough space to do well in, though. Would it use something like Buddypress Courseware and include integration with a gradebook? And I think the School theme is a good idea as well.

Wes, this could definitely become a great enterprise theme with the ideas you’ve posted.

It seems there could be many ways a theme like this works out. :)

I added my idea for a theme that integrates buddypress with events. I just haven’t found the right mix of integration between community and events on a theme and I have faith Woo could blow it out of the water!

I absolutely love your niche-specific themes, such as Diner, Estate, Listings, CityGuide… I would love to see a theme dedicated to the Hotel/Guesthouse niche.

I’m afraid my technical knowledge doesn’t go too far as to provide details, but I believe this would be a fantastic addition to your (already incredible) selection of themes.

      Leigh,

It’s an interesting idea, we love building functionality that targets these different niches.

For a Hotel type theme what would it need? Ability to show off available rooms, and be able to book them seems to me like the biggest feature of the site. Everything else could be standard pages to learn more about the hotel or contact them.

There is a similar idea on WooIdeas, http://ideas.woothemes.com/forums/72423-ideas/suggestions/1543181-holiday-cottage-rental-site?ref=title

You could post your own though, interested in seeing where it goes. :)
