WooCommerce: 30-Day Update, V1.1.3 Release, Piggy Integration & More Payment Extensions

16

by Adii Rockstar in WooLabs

Phew. That title was a mouthful.

It is exactly a month since we launched WooCommerce V1.0 and a lot has happened in that month:

  • WooCommerce has continued to gain a lot of traction within the WooCommunity (and great WordPress community), which has seen the plugin been downloaded almost 14 000 times already.
  • We’ve released 4 parent themes and 6 child themes for WooCommerce already. The stunning – and freeWootique has already amassed almost 6000 downloads by itself.
  • In addition to the themes, we’ve released 20 extensions to WooCommerce, which further builds on the functionality in the plugin. We now support multiple payment gateways too, which supports our vision of democratizing WooCommerce as much as possible.

With all of that in mind, we’re kicking off the next 30 days with a new version of WooCommerce and a couple of other goodies. Here we go with the details…

Case Study: Copyhackers

14

by Mark Forrester in 5 Minutes With Woo

Joanna Wiebe

A case study by Lance Jones on building an e-commerce store selling digital downloads using Coquette and WooCommerce.

Joanna, my amazing wife, is an equally amazing Web copywriter, who recently left her senior position at Intuit (makers of QuickBooks and TurboTax) to build her own online business. Over the past year – and in her spare time – she has been helping Web startups and entrepreneurs improve their conversion rates by writing more efective copy.

Humble beginnings

It all began with a humble request for help by a start-up co-founder, and ended up on the front page of Hacker News (kind of a Digg for developers and start-ups), resulting in a massive wave of emails flooding Joanna’s inbox with additional pleas for copy and conversion advice.

WordPress.com just got Bolder with Bold News

2

by Matty Cohen in Blog

February 2011 saw an exciting addition to the WooThemes eco-system; the release of our popular Headlines WooTheme on the WordPress.com network as a part of their premium themes collection. Since then, we’ve ported over customised versions of several of our themes to WordPress.com, which brings us to today’s topic; WordPress.com just got bolder!

Bold News (self hosted WordPress version), our popular news, magazine and blogging theme designed by Ryan Downie, is an ideal theme for showcasing your news articles in a clear and magazine-like fashion. With the number of proud WordPress.com blog owners who use their blogs for news articles or a magazine-style approach, Bold News seems like the next logical step in assisting these blog owners in better showcasing their content.

Teaming up with Teamster

by Mark Forrester in New Themes

The second theme release for this month is a magazine theme that doubles as a business theme, and triples as a portfolio theme. It’s flexibilty lies in it’s modular design and it’s ability to highlight multiple authors blog posts and portfolio items efficiently.

With so many cowork spaces popping up all over the world, creating affordable, shared work environments for freelancers we thought it only fitting to provide them with a theme that helps sell the space, and the people who use it better.

Case Study: The Cheaper Show

5

by Mark Forrester in 5 Minutes With Woo

Steve Rio

Steve Rio – Executive Director of The Cheaper Show, as well as Lead Strategist and CEO of Briteweb spent 5 minutes with us telling us more about their fun, unique, and ever growing art show, and the site they built to market and showcase it.

I’ve been working with WooThemes since the early days when Adii answered the support emails himself most of the time. I’ve probably employed WooThemes 30-40 times in the past 2 years, so I’ve seen them develop from good templates to an excellent framework.

While I don’t always use Woo (some of our projects are highly customized builds where we employ our own base theme/framework), I think WooThemes is incredible and the fastest way to get a website from 0-60 in days or even hours sometimes. I love the framework as it advances, the shortcodes and in the most recent iterations, really impressed with the built in social media box widgets etc and inclusion of Google Web Fonts. Two techniques I’ve been coding in to your themes until they were included.

Live typography preview now included in the WooFramework

31

by Matty Cohen in Blog, Development

Here at Woo, we’re constantly looking out for new features we can incorporate into the WooFramework (the engine that powers all of our 104-and-counting WooThemes). Along with looking out for new features and enhancements, we feel it important to not “code and ignore” a feature, but rather to maintain each feature on a regular basis, to ensure the code evolves along with the WooFramework and our themes.

One of the most popular features across our themes is our custom typography options, which afford website administrators the option of customising the typography settings across their website with a few simple clicks in the WooFramework “Theme Options” screen. When customising the typography settings, the administrator makes changes, hits the “Save all Changes” button and then visits their website to see how the typography has changed. The process, therefore, consists of 3 steps: setup, save, view- until today.

Remove all rounded corners

0

by Magnus in Canvas

Some might not like the use of rounded corners, so the solution would be to go through style.css and find all CSS selectors that have border-radius set and then add it to custom.css. This was done on a user request and here are the selectors from style.css:

.nav li ul li a,
.nav a, .nav li.current_page_item, .nav li.current_page_parent, .nav li.current-menu-ancestor, .nav li.current-menu-item, .nav li.sfHover, .nav li.selected,
#top .nav li.sfHover a,
#top .nav li ul, #top .nav li ul li:last-child a,
.woo-pagination a:link, .woo-pagination a:visited, .woo-pagination a:active, .woo-pagination span.current,
.searchform,
.widget_woo_twitter .back,
#tabs,
#tabs ul.wooTabs li a.selected, #tabs ul.wooTabs li a:hover,
#comments .reply a,
.button, .button:visited, .reply a, #respond .form-submit input#submit,
#connect .newsletter-form .submit,
#portfolio #port-tags .port-cat a
{
   border-radius:0;-moz-border-radius:0;-webkit-border-radius:0;
}
