Growing globally from humble beginnings

Written by Mark Forrester on April 2, 2012 News.

New WooTeam members

2012 continues to gear up to being a huge year for WooThemes. April sees a massive 6 new staff members join our team from all over the world – Ohio, California, Illinois, Netherlands, Norway, and South Africa. It is with great pride and joy that I look at our team page to see the size, global distribution, and characters that make up the team, and the humble beginnings from which it began. To think in 2008 we were three guys working from our small home offices…

Hugh Lashbrooke and Patrick Garman join the theme & internal development team to help nurture and improve the WooFramework, the membership system that powers the mothership and to innovate with some new products you’ll soon be reading about. Scott Basgaard, Matthew King and Michael Silva join our team of incredibly helpful and talented support team delivering happiness to our 185,000 community base, and Coen Jacobs joins team black ops, otherwise known as WooLabs with WooCommerce core and extensions development.

With the new team members our staff grows to 23 – a number we are quite amazed at looking back at our journey, but also a number which we feel remains relatively lean in terms of its ratio to the thousands of users we service. It is also a number that indicates our seriousness in taking WooThemes to the next level and establishing a platform from our products and services for our customers to build their online ventures from.

The planning has already begun for the next monumental WooTrip where the global team will all meet face to face, with a lot of expectation given the previous two adventures to the ski slopes of Austria and the site seeing & bar hopping in London town.

Please say hello to the guys, and follow them on Twitter, to stay up to date on our latest happenings.

Really awesome news Team Woo! Those meet-ups must be getting more fun as the team grows. It probably also means more beer. Lots more.. 😉

I had to have an “initiation” shot as the 10th hire, that means there will be 13 other guys awaiting their own! 😉

We’d LOVE to have some more lady talent on the team, unfortunately female WP devs seem few and far between. Do drop us an email if you think you have the skills and are looking.

Dominque is the glue that holds this place down, I have a feeling. Trust me, banks don’t want to have to deal with her twice 🙂

You need to balance your team gender ratio with some female devs 😉
