Last week saw us launching the #WOOBS Campaign in aid of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign we are running in October. Since the giveaway is ending this Wednesday, we thought we’d do a bit of a recap of the best #woobs tweets thus far in the hope that even more of you will be supporting this very worthy cause this month.

woobs Things are starting to heat up over here and the hotness can partly be attributed to our We Love Boobs campaign. In fact, things are getting so hot right now, that even our so-called “competitors” want to join in on the fun.

This may come as a surprise to many of you, but when it comes to competition within the WP community, all of the competitors (in the corporate sense of the word) are very friendly with each other. And as evidence of that awesomeness, Brian Gardner (founder of StudioPress) contacted us with a great idea in support of our We Love Boobs campaign. So here’s the down-low:

24 hours has passed since we posted yesterday’s “Guess our Bestsellers” competition and it’s about time that we get to announce the winners of some of those Developer themes…

First up, nobody could come up with the right guess for our best-selling themes in the last month, so nobody thus got both correct and the free 6 month subscription on offer has thus gone to waste… There are however 6 people who guessed our all-time bestselling themes correctly and we have decided to give each of these people a Developer copy to any of our themes. But before we announce the winners, we need to tell you what the winning combo’s would’ve been…

We do love our competitions here at WooThemes and we’re definitely of the opinion that things would just get a little dull over here at times, if we didn’t spice things up with whacky, new contests & promo’s. The funny thing about these competitions is, that we never really spend a lot of time conceptualizing it; instead we just act impulsively based upon a creative spark. So excuse us if our ideas aren’t overly complicated, but we believe the freebies definitely makes up for the lack of “substance”…

So this time around, we were curious to see whether you could actually guess which of our themes were indeed the bestsellers in terms of their popularity & sales. This is especially intriguing, since with every recent release we’ve had negative comments about the theme, even though we obviously have the past sales data to back up our decisions. Here’s how this is gonna work…

So we know we delayed this announcemenet slightly, but we’ve been tied up elsewhere… But without holding this up any longer, we’d like to tell you who the lucky winners are…

For this one, we really, really liked John O’Nolan’s suggestion to create a Digg-style platform for niche WordPress content. There are a whole bunch of WP content aggregators out there, but none that offers a little bit of community contribution & involvement; so we’re sure that this will be a great idea. Congrats John!

For this one, we had to think a little longer as there were many great suggestions… In the end, we decided to award it to Mark Bailey for his in-depth plan of action. We just got the feeling that he’s going to do a great job of building a community around wpmag.com and the community is really lacking some top-notch WP content sites.

It’s competition time around here again… For a while now, I’ve had both wpressd.com & wpmag.com registered with the idea of using them for some kind of WordPress-related (duh!) project. The sad truth is however that I’ve never had enough time to invest in developing these domains into something that justifies the quality of the domain names.

So I’ve decided to give both of these domains away, in the hope that someone else will develop them and do them justice. Obviously the idea is that the projects will both contribute back to the WP community; so we all stand to gain from this!

Here’s what you can win:

One of the two domains: wpressd.com or wpmag.com;

So yesterday I decided to launch a little fun promo competition, whereby my Twitter followers could suggest a definition of “Cushy” and get the chance to win one of free copies of the Cushy theme (also released yesterday). I must admit that I didn’t expect so many people to participate and I’ve had a really great laugh as a result of some of the most hilarious / ridiculous tweets I’ve *ever* seen. So here’s a run-down of all tweets that came through yesterday…

It’s only 5 days until Halloween and the end date for our WooContest, so still some time to get your designs in to us. Our Flickr Group now holds 150 members and 105 contest entries which is pretty impressive! If you haven’t already seen our previous favorites you should take a look.

We have been busy gathering guest judges, and we have a few great web designers who were able to help cast their votes. We will be posting more details later in the week as the contest ends. Here is four more designs that we think are top notch.

Wowee… We must admit that our wildest expectations are being exceeded with regards to the success we’ve already seen for the WooContest. When we decided to launch this competition at the beginning of the month, we did not know what the quality of the submissions would be like, but with some amazing submissions already (and almost 2 weeks left for more entries), we’re very, very happy!

We’ve had an amazing response to our WooContest and already have 39 items in our Flickr group. We will be listing a few designs each monday until the contest ends that we think stand out amongst the crowd. We also want to point out we are looking for all types of designs and not only magazine layouts, so we really hope that we see some more unique designs.

WooThemes Contest As you all know, we at WooThemes love collaborating with industry-leading, creative designers and launching stylish and unique Wordpress themes every month. We also love seeing how our fantastic community of users customize and implement our themes.

We therefore thought it would be a good idea to launch a competition where you our readers/users can get involved, and gain some exposure, designing a theme concept for us. Not to forget, you stand the chance to win some big money!

How to enter

To enter the competition, contestants must submit a theme concept you think would go down a treat on WooThemes.

The design must be created in Photoshop, Fireworks or Illustrator format.
The website container must have a width of between 940 and 980 pixels, catering for the average 1024 X 768 user.
The entries must be submitted to the WooThemes Flickr pool in jpeg or png format and tagged “Woocontest”.
Entries must be submitted before midnight on 31st October 2008. That’s Halloween night! Woooooooooooooo.

Your submission on Flickr must include:

Your name and any URL you would like linked to in case you win.
Any stock or source images you have used including URLs. Be sure to only use stock images that have Extended Usage licenses that allow for distributing the theme design once coded, otherwise avoid use of stock images.

The winner will be chosen according to the amount of positive comments it receives, as well as feedback gathered from guest judges (guest judges will be announced soon).

The winner will receive $2000 and a 6 month develop license, whilst the runner up will receive $1000 and a 3 month develop license. Both will obviously grab a heap of exposure.

We will then add some wordpress magic to the concept and launch it is an official WooTheme, crediting our winning designer.

Terms and Conditions

The theme concept submitted must be entirely your own work. As mentioned above if stock imagery is used it must have an exttended usage license.
By entering this competition you consent to your theme concept possibly being used by WooThemes and avaliable for purchase on our site. First and second prize will, as already stated, be awarded a cash prize for their work.
If any other theme concepts are used by WooThemes the designer will be informed and a once-off fee will be awarded to the designer for the concept. The fee will be agreed upon by both parties. Sales generated off the theme will be kept by the company.
The winning theme concept and the runner up may be required to mock up an inner page before payment is made, determined by an inspection of the design source file. A clearly noted grid structure is highly recommended.
