Woo gets beveled

by Mark Forrester in New Themes

Our latest theme release has been sitting on the backburner for a while now, ever since it was initially released as a Tumblr theme (which we’ve since discontinued). Not letting it go to waste the designer, and co-founder of WooThemes, Magnus Jepson hoped to find some time to give it some WordPress love and subsequently a more impressive feature-set. As can be seen on this blog we’ve been pretty busy this year so he only found the time a month ago, but we are very happy to finally get this out.

The Fastest Theme in the Wild Woo West

by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

Placeholder is officially the fastest theme we’ve ever developed. From conceptualization to release was only a day. Not bad for a day’s work, right?

Counting down until the big reveal

Before the weekend started, the team prompted Magnus to consider designing a new theme, as he had not released a theme since Inspire (in May last year). Considering how well Maggie’s theme have sold, the WooTeam’s rationale & motivation was obvious. Heck, Busy Bee was a weekend’s work, so why couldn’t Maggie do it again?

Maggie consequently had the idea for Placeholder yesterday afternoon and 24 hours later it is released.

We know you love business themes here at Woo, as you can see from our theme leaderboard. So closely following Apz is another business theme designed in-house by myself.

Inspire continues where Optimize left off, adding a dynamic custom homepage that uses custom built jQuery in the featured area.

Your Blank Canvas

by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

We’re very happy to finally introduce you to our newest creation – Canvas.

In the last couple of weeks Magnus has been spearheading a project to develop a brand-new theme that would add a few touches of uniqueness to our collection. Along with the odd contribution from the rest of the WooTeam, we managed to create a new & improved starting point for your blog.

Canvas started out as a re-write of the starter theme that we were using with WooFramework2, to develop all of our existing themes on-top off. But we seemingly got carried away a little bit and Canvas truly came into its own right, serving its own purpose and satisfying some of your more specific needs.

Design Canvas

Here’s a preview of a little something-something that we’ve been cooking up behind the scenes. When we release this beauty next week, you can be assured that it’ll be unlike anything else that we’ve released before. Promise.

Optimized

by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts

Some of you might have already seen this, but for those of you that don’t follow us on Twitter (or in fact- the whole WooTeam), we’ve decided to make it a little easier to get in on some optimized action…

After the rip-roaring success of Magnus’ Coffee Break design (which is probably our fastest selling theme of 2009), he opened up his Photoshop for one last hurrah (for this year anyway) and got designing on another cracker of a business theme. Since we launched WOO2 back in June of this year, we’ve been getting so many requests for us to release our (custom btw) design as a theme, so with Magnus’ new design, we needed to take that into account as well (since we love giving you exactly what you want).

The result is a slick new design entitled Optimize, which builds on Coffee Break’s success, as well as the popularity of our own design. Take a look…

Headlining Act

54

by Adii Rockstar in New Themes

post_release_headlinesYou only need to have a quick look at the Themes Leaderboard to realize that Magnus has designed a whole lot of our most popular themes since we started out. It should also be evident that it would be total ignorance from us should we deny the fact that Magnus’ signature design style has greatly influenced the overall look & feel of what we offer with WooThemes (even more remarkable considering we’ve worked with some of the best designers in the world)…

And with his new design – Headlines – that’s exactly the situation once again.

Today’s Headline Teaser

94

by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts

We’ve told you this before and this won’t be the last time you hear it: but Magnus is a machine… Lovingly called Magatron within the WooTeam, Magnus has a knack of creating something from absolutely nowhere and more often than not those creations / ideas are top-notch stuff.

So with his new magazine-type design – titled Headlines – he completely took the team by surprise, as we didn’t know he was working on a new design. Whilst Headlines hasn’t reinvented any wheel, the team has been very impressed by the design and the feedback we received from the teaser we posted on Facebook seems to confirm our early positive feelings about the design. So let’s take a closer look at the new theme…

Object Theme

Object Theme

Since we showed you the beta preview of Object exactly a week (and 83 comments) ago, Magnus has been busy implementing some of your suggestions in the final, release version of the theme. So whilst slightly unexpected and unplanned, we’ve decided to push Daily Edition‘s release back by one week in favour of making Object available immediately. So onto the theme…

Object is a flexible photo- & videoblogging theme, which has been crafted using Magnus’ signature and slightly minimalist style (the same style that spawned bestsellers such as Fresh News & Busy Bee). So I’d doubt that anyone will question the potential, flexibility and awesomeness of this theme.

The Object Teaser

92

by Adii Rockstar in Theme Concepts

In Norway they do things differently… Or at least to what I’m used to as a South African… So when I go away for a weekend, I don’t expect to come back and see a new design concept from Magnus. But somehow Magnus loves this unexpected and unplanned way of designing & releasing his themes, as both Busy Bee and Coffee Break came to existence in this very way.

If you’ve had a look at our best-selling themes, you’d also be stupid to bet against Magnus pulling off another extremely popular design… In fact… I personally made the mistake of not backing Busy Bee entirely when I first saw it and it’s now our second most popular theme EVER… That’s called learning the hard way…

So onto Magnus’ new design (yes, that one which he designed and basically finished coding over the weekend)… The new design has been titled Object and is a photoblogging theme a little bit similar to Aperture. Magnus has however decided to focus more on photos (making this more of a niche theme), whereas Aperture is probably a little bit more multi-purposed. Here’s what Object looks like…
