There is also a hosted solution in the form of WordPress.com where you don’t need to worry about installing WordPress, hosting your site or maintaining the system. It is however limiting in functionality and customability and aimed more at casual bloggers. WooThemes only caters for self hosted WordPress installations from WordPress.org.

ExpressionEngine

ExpressionEngine is the only web publishing platform that we currently cater for that is not open source – but for good reason! ExpressionEngine prides itself on it’s flexibility, where WordPress and Drupal sometimes forces you to work a certain way, ExpressionEngine adapts to your creative process. It is the preferred solution for a lot of the industry leading web designers.

ExpressionEngine 2.0 was released in late December 2009 and offered huge improvements to the backend facilities and theme development features. Our very unique ExpressionEngine themes have been specifically designed for this latest release. Over the next few months we will be porting a lot of our popular Wordpress themes to this platform.

Drupal

While WordPress is more of a single user/small company website solution, Drupal was designed for multiple users and is implemented more frequently in more corporate/community driven environments. With a heap of add-on modules like social networking, e-commerce and discussion forums you’ll soon discover it’s possibilites are endless.

Drupal is also freely available open source software but not for the faint of heart. There is a learning curve and a lot of the functionality may be hard to grasp. Find out more about Drupal here.

It is open source software that in a little over a year has been downloaded 750,000+ times.
